Pre-conditioned Air (PCA) - Key benefits
PCA is an external ground service enabling aircrafts to be cooled on ground without the use of the Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) Improved cabin thermal comfort Reduced air & noise pollution Shorter turnaround time Lower operational costs for airlines New revenue stream for airlines
5
Pre-conditioned Air (PCA) – New market players, new challenges
Traditional aviation markets New mid-end markets (15 years) New high-end markets (10 years) High humidity Extreme temperature, humidity and VLA High humidity Bigger aircrafts, more modern with multiple on-board equipments and operated in hot ambient conditions are challenging the industry in engineering higher PCA cooling performance systems
6
Pre-conditioned Air (PCA) – Industry standards
As a result, airlines and aircraft manufacturers have been looking for higher PCA cooling performance and the industry had to create a new standard with the AHM997

Cavotec’s AHM997 PCA Timeline – In operation
2008 2009 2010 2011 2012 2013 Starting in 2005, Cavotec had launched a Subfreezing PCA R&D program. Emirates Airline asked Cavotec to help them. The project was initiated and a cooperation with Airbus started. Cavotec’s PCA systems – Conclusion
SUBFREEZING, GOING BEYOND THE HORIZONS Cavotec has been able to initiate the definition and adoption of a new cooling method and standard Aircrafts being bigger and more equipped and operated in severe ambient conditions require the AHM997 as a standard method for an efficient aircraft cooling and under all conditions Safety features are critical - a permanent control of the PCA flow and pressure is a must and shall not be neglected The subfreezing has to be engineered as a complete system for maximizing its performance and reducing the potential design liability risks
