2 Employment Status Your employment with CAE is "at-will." TA or CAE may terminate your employment at any time, with or without notice, for any reason, with or without cause Teaching Artists are hired as Temporary Employees — employees hired by CAE for a limited period of time or for a specific assignment Employment is contingent on teaching artists’ participation in required trainings or planning meetings and CAE’s available workload CAE will review its roster at the end of each semester to determine its need for teaching artists Employees must submit Federal, State and NYC Withholding Tax Forms and Employment Eligibility Verification (I-9)

5 Teaching Artist Roles Providing direct services to students through instruction in dance, music, theatre and the visual arts; Serving as mentors to students during productions or other arts-related events or activities. Conducting PD workshops for teachers; Engagement in program planning, evaluation, and assessment of student learning with teachers; Conducting parent workshops

6 Teaching Artist Roles Under no circumstances can teaching artists be left alone in a classroom with students during in-school residencies. It is not permissible for a TA to work with students unless a certified DOE teacher is present in the room during in-school residencies. TAs can instruct without a teacher present in after-school programs

7 Fingerprinting DOE requires all TAs working in all our programs to be fingerprinted through the NYC Department of Education If you are a new TA or you have never been fingerprinted to work at the DOE, you are required to do so before you start working in a CAE program If you need to be fingerprinted, please notify CAE immediately— you will need be added to the DOE’s Personnel Eligibility Tracking System (PETS) before visiting the HR walk-in center HR Connect Walk-In Center at 65 Court Street, Room 102, in Brooklyn, Monday-Friday between 9:00am and 4:30pm. Bring a picture ID and money order or personal check for $115.00. You will have to fill several forms prior to visiting the walk-in center— please read the website carefully and follow the directions Please note that CAE does not cover the fingerprinting fees

8 Professionalism and Evaluation As representatives of CAE, teaching artists are expected to strive for the highest standard of excellence in their teaching and communications Teaching Artists are expected to arrive on time for teaching sessions, trainings and meetings Must submit all required documentation by the outlined deadlines and respond to all CAE correspondence in a timely manner A professional evaluation of each Teaching Artist will be conducted by Teaching and Learning staff each semester CAE Teaching and Learning staff will make site visits throughout the year to observe Teaching Artist classroom practice and to provide additional support CAE will review its roster at the end of each semester

9 Communications and Attendance Collaborative planning must be integrated into the schedule of the residency Attend planning meetings at schools RSVP promptly and attend/participate inCAE orientations and PD sessions Be on time for all classes and meetings Immediate communication is required when challenges or problems arise

10 Cancellation Policy Schools must contact the teaching artist and CAE at least 24 hours in advance to reschedule. If a school does not notify their teaching artist of a cancellation at least 24hours in advance, the teaching artist will be paid for the workshop, and a make-up session will not be scheduled. This policy also applies to teaching artists’ attendance. Teaching artists’ emergency absences must be notified to the school and CAE as soon as possible. If a session is cancelled due to weather or other related school closing, CAE will assist schools and teaching artists in scheduling a make-up workshop.

11 Sick Leave Policy CAE part-time employees are eligible to earn 40 hours of paid sick leave annually at an accrual rate of 1 hour of paid sick leave for every 30 hours worked CAE employees begin earning sick time as of their date of hire Paid sick leave will be tracked based on the fiscal year (July 1 st -June 30 th ) TAs must be employed at least 120 days before they are able to use paid sick leave (although the days accrue beginning on the first day of employment) and must work 80+ hours per year Unused paid sick leave may be carried over to the following fiscal year; however use of more than 40 hours of sick time in one calendar year is prohibited See TA handbook for more info on acceptable reasons to use sick leave

12 Payroll Teaching artists are responsible for submitting payroll in a timely fashion. Timesheets must be submitted on Fridays by 12:00pm. Paychecks are issued on Thursday and mailed by the end of the week. Payroll received after 12:00pm on Fridays will not be submitted for payment until the following payroll period. CAE will not cut checks in between payroll periods. Please refer to the Payroll Schedule on your orientation packet for submission dates during this fiscal year.
