21 Internship Teacher of Record is our preference. PAID Internship in your OWN classroom Placed Interns – Passing Praxis II scores are due with internship application packets. If you’re placed:  Paperwork  2-3 all day on-campus meetings throughout the semester  $250 fee

22 Internship  Placed Interns: No cold calling or setting up internship or practicum placements before attending practicum orientation or the internship placement meetings. Many districts require us to go through human resources.  Those with jobs: Praxis 2 scores are due by the night of the internship meeting in August.

23 Important Dates for Internship Placement Thursday, April 2 at 6 PM  Mashburn 103  For those needing Fall '15 placement Thursday, April 16 at 4:30pm  Placement forms due! [See MAT website AFTER THE MEETING.]  If you’re not sure, submit the forms and withdraw if hired.

24 Important Internship Note Please do not register for internship because you plan to have a job. This does not give us accurate internship numbers. You can register up until the night of the internship meeting in August. Please only register for internship IF:  You have submitted a placement packet  You have a job as a teacher of record in your own classroom

25 Background Check After registration in the Practicum course, you will be e-mailed the forms to complete and return. Student Connect - Cost is $10. Submit payment AFTER you receive an e- mail from Student Connect. Be sure to check SPAM folder These MUST be completed before ANY field.

26 Petition for Candidacy If you started the MAT program after May 2014, the UCA Graduate School has removed the requirement that candidates complete the Petition for Candidacy form. Candidates are now required to track their own progress in their program of study through the DEGREE WORKS link of the MyUCA portal.

If you did take/pass only SOME of the "old" PPST tests (if the test was taken prior to Sept 1, 2013), those tests will be honored, but any new tests you take must be the "Core" required Praxis tests. 36 Praxis Changes Praxis II Science Licensure Changes Starting in fall 2015, candidates applying for Physical Science Licensure grades 7-12 will take the Physics (5265) or Chemistry (5245) exam. Programs for Physical Science License will be discontinued in August 2016. Candidates enrolled prior to that date will be allowed to complete the program for Physical Science licensure. Physics and Chemistry will also be available as an endorsement to a current license by testing out starting in fall 2015.

37 PRAXIS Changes Coming American Sign Language (ASL), grades K-12 ASL is now available as another foreign language licensure area. The candidates are required to pass the American Sign Language (0632) and the World Language Pedagogy (5841) exams. There are currently no approved programs of study for initial licensure. The area can be added to a standard license by testing out as soon as the test is approved.

38 PRAXIS Changes Coming Computer Science, grades 4-12 HB 1183 requires each public high school and public charter school to offer a course in computer science. In preparation for it becoming law, computer science has been added as a licensure content area. ETS will be working with the ADE for the next few months to get the Praxis Computer Science (5651) exam through the state review and approval process. Until programs of study are developed and approved, it will be available as an endorsement to a current license by testing out.

39 Praxis I and II The Praxis® Core are now available for continuous testing with official scores for Reading and Mathematics released within 10– 11 business days from the test date, and within 15–16 business days for Writing. More titles are coming for continuous testing. Additional titles that will be offered continuously beginning in the 2015–16 testing year: Marketing Education (5561) Music: Content Knowledge (5113)

42 Professionalism and Email Etiquette Use: Mr., Mrs., Ms., Dr. when addressing faculty/staff Include a clear, direct subject line Use a “professional” email address Be cautious with humor Watch the tone of your email Do not use curse words or slang Check for spelling, punctuation, and grammar errors

43 Provisional License All information (checklist) on MAT website Must pass Praxis II and be continuously enrolled We don’t process until you have been offered a job. YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to follow up on background checks to ensure your license is processed!

44 Secondary Licensure – 30 Hours This has been an ADE rule. ADE has changed the rule effective September 2014. We will work to push through your license if you haven’t finished the 30 hours. Case by case basis Muddy water
