3 Bigger than Ben Hur  Started in March 2008  Over-use of computers at lunch  Aim was to make students aware and give them time and space and activities to think about it  Moving into other subjects

5 What does it look like?  3 weeks with a different focus each week  Kicked off with an assembly  Bulletin items  Discussions forums on Moodle  PSE  Lunchtime activities  Trackers & Passport

6 Week 1- Health and Nutrition  MS Assembly  Food pyramids  Homeroom discussion  House Nutrition Challenge  Online surveys-physical activity vs. electronic time, sleep habits

7 Week 2-Social and Emotional Health Week  www.thatsnotcool.com www.thatsnotcool.com  www.kidshealth.org/teen www.kidshealth.org/teen  www.Dove.com campaign www.Dove.com  DVD-Divorce, Death  Lunchtime Quizzes  PSE  Bulletin Items  Discussion on Moodle

8 Week 3-Balance Week  Healthy Lifestyle Tracker  Lunchtime Activities-Physical, Spiritual/Environmental, Intellectual, Social/Emotional  Top Ten Balance Tips- connected to the Learner Profile-Discussion on Moodle  Introduction to new expectations surrounding MS computer use

9 Reflection  Enjoyed by both students and teachers  Community building-working towards house points  A reflective process  Need to consider interest level of each age group

10 Moving Forward  Getting the wider community involved  Continuing and ingraining it in what we do in the MS-school newsletter, video, photos  Differentiation for Grade levels  Making sure it isn’t forgotten after the 3 weeks is over

11 How to adapt to your school?  How do you envision this working at your school?  Who would be involved?  What would be the constraints?  How would you get the whole middle school on board?  How would you ensure continuity?
