Cell travel guide By: Merly Alcocer Kristina Casillas Kenny Dangles Grace Brown

The cell

nucleus control center” that contains DNA Tells organelles what to do. Nucleolus : “ makes ribosomes” Chromatin: DNA that is expanded out Nuclear envelope: double membrane bound Nuclear pores:allows nucleus to communicate in/ out of the cell.

Endoplasmic reticulum Transports material through the cell Makes proteins and water Rough: Contains ribosomes and makes proteins Smooth: No ribosomes. Synthesis of lipids

Ribosomes They are protein- synthesizing machines of the cell They translate the information encoded in messenger RNA

Golgi Apparatus A.k.a Golgi Complex or Golgi Body “The Mail Man” Process, package, and secrets cell products

Mitochondria “Power house” Is the energy source of the cell and contains cristae needed for aerobic respiration

Vacuole “The Storage” Keeps water inside the plant cell Cell organelle that stores material such as water, salts, proteins, and carbohydrates

Lysosomes “Garbage man” Gets rid of all unwanted stuff such as bacteria Also gets rid of worn out organelles such as mitochondria

Cytoplasm “cytoskeleton” Consists of a clear liquid called cytosol A supportive framework and network of membranes and organelles

Plasma Membrane Protects the cell Selectively permeable membrane “keeps stuff in and out of cell A continuous double-layer sheet of lipid molecules containing embedded proteins
