UHM CanSat Team Members: Chris Ho: Team master, software Tyson Fukuyama: Hardware

Project Overview The CanSat competition is designed to reflect, on a small scale, a typical aerospace program Our mission is to launch an autonomous CanSat that operates as a remote sensor in a larger network of sensors Our CanSat will be launched by a small rocket and will not break the earth’s atmosphere During its descent, it is expected to relay various data to a ground station while and up to 3 hours of telemetry reports upon landing Small scale of a satellite but follows same steps from submitting a preliminary design review to a post mission review Scored throughout competition on schedules, design reviews, and a demonstration flight

Approach Team consists of MEs and EEs –Divide subsystems Research –Understand the different subsystems –Get the most out of the experience Use schedule as a strict guide

Potential Problems Strict deadlines Lack of experience –Must learn to manage a large project Funds Deliverables Understand various levels of experience Conflicting schedules

Expecting to Learn Basic skills in a variety of aerospace subsystem disciplines How to construct a CanSat (i.e. a satellite with specific constraints) Learn how to write code to drive a diverse set of systems Design and construct a PCB Read data given by satellite More about the the systems (communication), electro-physics (component management), and computer (programming) side of EE.

Team Goals Build a CanSat that will be ready by launch date and carry out a successful mission While in flight (descent) –Relay GPS location to home station over a series of set intervals –Relay the altitude (calculated by means other than gps) at a given time to home station –Relay descent rate in real-time –Record maximum altitude –2 housekeeping telemetry (battery temp, battery voltage)

Team Goals On Ground –Measure ground temperature within 10 second window –Average ground temperature –Image from the ground –Landing coordinates –Send information for 3 hours
