2 2 The.LRN history at UiB Autumn 2003: UiB started using.LRN Spring 2006:.LRN became the official LMS system and the LMS- project was initiated –Several improvements and customizations to.LRN. Autumn 2006: UiB policy to support and administer a large amount of electronically submitted papers through.LRN –Led to a customized homework portlet (Renamed Assignment) Autumn 2007:.LRN officially became a common place for students to submit electronic papers. User Statistics (last week) –November 10th: 9889 unique logins (9227 students) –October 27 – November 10: 23793 unique logins (16809 logged in more then 20 times)

4 4 Customizations - Assignment Folders Three main types of folders –Learning folder –Assessment folder –Master’s thesis folder Each folder can have subfolders

5 5 Customizations - Submission Deadlines Individual deadlines The remaining time before closing or opening is shown Deadlines shown in My Calendar Granting individual submission dates –In specific folders or in all the folders in a class –Hours, days or a combination –Automatic email notification to students Listing of students that have submitted / not submitted –Email options Automatic email receipt to students after submitting

6 6 Customizations - Status and Group Submissions Status Feedback –Feedback to students “Passed” / “Not passed” Stored in the comment-field Sorting by status Email option Group Submissions –Available in subgroups –Members of the subgroup are automatically registered as authors of the submitted paper Email receipts The submitted paper is visible to all the authors

7 7 Integrations – Documentation MediaWiki Students and Administrators Available in Norwegian and English Each portlet has a question mark in the right corner –Leads to the relevant part of the documentation –Personal language settings indicates the language version of the documentation –The role (member / administrator) indicates which documentation to send them to

8 8 Integrations – Exams Archive, BORA and Ephorus The Electronic Exams Archive –Submissions can be sent from Assignment to a central electronic Exams Archive BORA - Bergen Open Research Archive –Master’s thesis will automatically be sent to BORA if the student has agreed to this when submitting The Text Recognition System - Ephorus –Checks submissions for plagiarism –A service that teachers can request A “Send to Ephorus” button appears in the folders

9 9 Integration portlet A portlet/API (Integration Package) for jumping to other systems without the need for logging in again has been made available in its own portlet –Choose whether to use it in a class –Choose which systems to add Example: Kark (red) and Kark (green) has been added:

10 10 Work in progress - Future publish date Enable future posting of exercises, handouts, lecture notes etc. More flexibility when administrating classes. Currently working on implementing this feature in the File Storage:
