3 Dress & Genre The outfits in this video are SO American, or American in the sense of the stereotypical image we have in our heads, there are the jocks and cheerleaders and American icons that you instantly recognise like Elvis and Marilyn Monroe these kinds of outfits reflect the way the song is saying people are superficial. These stereotypes are the ones that would be recognised by the audience of marinas music, as the people that are into the whole idea of jocks and cheerleaders would be the type of people who listen to her music which is classed as dance pop.

4 Lyrics & Music Marina is singing about how we have this image in our heads of what America is like when in face its just an illusion, what we think exist its just what Hollywood wants us to see. If you don’t listen to the lyrics then at first from watching the video and listening to the music as in the video she is surrounded by all the stereotypes possible having a good time and the music is upbeat and on the surface positive “I'm obsessed with the mess that’s America” “Hollywood's infected your brain you want to kiss it in the rain “

5 Camera work& Editing The majority of this video it shot with a wide shot with marina in the centre of the frame with things relating to the song going on around her, when this isn't the case the camera cuts away to a shot of something else relevant to the song most of the time its to a shot of something she is normally surrounded by. This editing gives the impression that marina is talking about something she is surrounded by, she wants to live in the American dream that Hollywood has created. The editing unlike other videos doesn’t cut on the beat instead it changes randomly, this doesn’t however make the video jumpy as the whole video colour scheme is the same (red white and blue) so it makes the scenes link

6 Intertextuality Because there is so much going on in the video there so much to take in, but after a couple of view you start noticing thing that on the first few viewings you missed. this video is full of stereotypes that you notice, jocks cheerleaders. the video is full of the glamour we associate with America this association is concreted when celebrities like Marilyn Monroe and Elvis look-a-likes feature in the video
