Interesting Facts About Cells Edmund Yu Hahn Chiu Mitch Thompsen

What is A Cell? A Cell is the functional unit of all living Organelles. There are many types of cells. A cell has three main parts and they are the nucleus, cytoplasm and cell membrane

Components of Cell: Membrane All cells are surrounded by a cell membrane. The Cell Membrane maintains the integrity of cell as well as controlling the passage of materials in and out of the cell.

Organelles: Ribosome An organelle is a structure with a specific function The Ribosome is composed of DNA and Protein. Ribosome are found in the ER membrane and cytoplasm, a supportive framework.

Lysosomes and Peroxisomes Lysosome and Peroisomes, both contain enzymes. Lysosomes digest worn cellular parts Peroisome breaks down lipids and other materials

Golgi Apparatus It packages protein for transport and secretion. It is made up of sacs.

Endoplasmic Reticulum There is a rough and smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum. The Rough has Ribosome, the smooth does not. The rough ER transports and synthesizes protein. The smooth ER synthesizes lipids.

The Nucleus The Nucleus stores genetic information and serves as the control center of the cell. The nucleus is surrounded by a nuclear Envelope.

The Nucleus (continued) The nucleus is surrounded by a nuclear envelope which is the double membrane of the nucleus. It separates the contents of the nucleus from the cytosol, an internal fluid

The Nucleus (continued) The Nucleus is surrounded by nuclear pores which serve as a passage way for cell At the center of the nucleus is the nucleolus, which is where ribosome synthesize occurs.

Off Topic:The Brain The Brain coordinates movement and behavior. Most living things have a brain.

Interesting Facts: Brains The average weight of a brain is 1,300 grams for adults. Two percent of a human’s weight is the brain Injuries to the brain tend to affect large areas of the brain, sometimes causing major deficits intelligence. Brain is studied in many fields of science including psychology
