Inside the Cell By: John Lee David Wong Xai Chang Lee Thao

Cell Membrane Maintains integrity of cell and controls passage of materials into and out of cell A double layer or bi- layer of phospholipid molecules

Cytoplasm Where the cell activities occur and where nutrients are received, processed, and used Contains organelles suspended in the clear liquid cytosol

Ribosomes

Golgi Apparatus Refines, packages, and delivers protein synthesized ribosome associated with the endoplasmic reticulum Looks like a group of flattened sacs

Mitochondria The major site of chemical reactions that transform released energy from certain nutrient molecules into adenosine triphosphate

Rough E.R. Provides a vast tubular network that transports molecules from one cell part to another Composed of membrane-bounded flattened sacs

Smooth E.R. Has enzymes important in lipid synthesis, absorption of fat from the digestive tract, & the metabolism of drugs Also membrane bounded flattened sacs but doesn’t have ribosomes

Nucleus The nucleus directs overall cell activities by housing the genetic material

Nucleolus Produces ribosome for protein synthesis Contains RNA for protein synthesis

Stem Cells Stem cells can develop to many different cell types in the body. It serves of a repair system for the body.
