Executive Summary This is a key element in the report. It allows the reader to understand the main problems, findings, and recommendations in concise form. It does not allude to such things as – “work was done” and “read more to find out what happened.”

Introduction Company – carefully chosen info to orient the reader in such matters as: size - number of employees, sales; product line(s) and market; not long Product/Process – especially the one(s) you are dealing with.

Problem Statement and Objective Problem Statement The difficulty/difficulties that group is facing. Objective What improvement you want to make.

Methodology The What – What procedures will I use? The How – How will I measure? i.e., what data will I use?

Methodology – continued The What – An integration of the courses you have taken; selection of the best tool(s) for the job. Might include the use of fish bone diagrams, flow charts, % acceptable plots, layout diagrams, bench marking, best practices, etc. Can have multiple methodologies – especially if you have multiple problems/objectives

Methodology - continued The How – What evidence will you accept as to whether or not “your change(s)” is/are a good one? How will you go about measuring what exists, and then making your change(s)? Good results are statistically conclusive results; statistical model is presented here if used; remember Design of Experiments (DOE).

Results What you found. The data and an explanation of what it means. Could be existing layouts.

Recommendations What changes you think should be made based on your results. Why you make these recommendations. Could be new layouts.

Conclusions A prediction of what will happen if/when your recommendations are implemented. Things that you observed that you think should be done next (but were not part of this investigation).

Parallelism There is a parallel structure that must take place within your report. ProblemObjectiveMethodology ResultsRecommendationsConclusions
