3 Concept People tend to tweet what they think There are 190 million twitter accounts! Tweeters archive their tweets via Hashtags

4 What we want to do? Find who is in the news Find why they are in the news Analyze twitter ‘sentiments’ for a particular topic or person

5 Use Case - 1 Cricket World Cup Tracking player performances versus their presence in tweets Who gets noticed – for the good and the bad?

6 Use Case - 2 Technology tweets Find out what people think about the latest technology products Can also act as a community review system E.g. What’s good in the new iPad? Merits? Flaws?

7 How do we do it? Twitter feeds are public. They can be searched by hash tags and can be parsed. Popular words within these tweets can be stored and visualized to track the ‘buzz’ on the internet

8 Sentiments? How? Sentiments can be classified by using the words used by the tweeters Positive (Good Boy!) and Negative (Bad Boy!) words can be used to predict the trend We can also do a temporal sentiment analysis. Find out how user sentiments change over time.

9 Visualization All the data we gain needs to be suitably visualized so that people can understand what is going on! Use information visualization techniques like Tag Clouds, Tree maps and tools like Google Visualization API, jQuery.

10 Who are our users? Sports fans – to find out who is hot and who is not! Technology Enthusiasts Researchers – to find trends on research topics
