(1) Identify one or two major attributes that mark the Medieval world (ca. 500-1400) as distinctly different than the Classical world. This might include political organization, economic patterns, religious traditions, gender roles, intellectual accomplishments, or other. OR (2) The Middle Ages is often described as the "Age of Faith". Is this description accurate? What evidence (events, texts, people, ideas, etc.) supports this idea? What evidence disproves this idea?

4 Take-Home midterm See guidelines on course websiteguidelines (1) Did men and women live similar lives in the Middle Ages? To what extent were their respective roles and status in medieval society parallel? What opportunities were available to one gender that were denied to the other? (Hint: remember to consult PRIMARY sources as well as Bennett) OR (2) What was life like for students at a medieval university? How would you compare medieval with modern student life, and what factors might account for the differences? (Hint: Be sure to consult the PRIMARY sources we have read). »OR (3) Analyze the role of the Catholic Church in the Middle Ages. For example, what role did it play in medieval society? How did it influence politics, education, diplomacy, daily life, etc.? Be sure to base your answer upon the PRIMARY sources that we have read this semester (e.g., about the Crusades, the Albigensian heresy, the university, etc.)
