Engineering H193 - Team Project Gateway Engineering Education Coalition P. 1Spring Quarter 2007 Week 8 Day 1 Notes on Individual Competition and Visual Aids for Oral Presentations

Engineering H193 - Team Project Gateway Engineering Education Coalition P. 2Spring Quarter 2007 Important Topics That Should Be In Your Final Report Description of problems found in test sessions and how these were resolved Project time utilization ( design/ build/ code/ test/ document/ total person hours/ etc.) Schedule effectiveness ( did the plan work, if not, what were the adjustments ) What were your robot's deficiencies ? What would you do to improve your 'next' robot ? Don't forget the executive summary…. It is very important

Engineering H193 - Team Project Gateway Engineering Education Coalition P. 3Spring Quarter 2007 Individual Competition on Wednesday Testing will cease no later than Midnight on Tuesday Robots must be ready to run at the beginning of the class period Competition order will be determined randomly Teams will have 2 minutes to be ready to run after they have been called, else run is “Did Not Show” There will be three runs on Wednesday – the score from the best run will be recorded Teams must be ready to run at start of class period

Engineering H193 - Team Project Gateway Engineering Education Coalition P. 4Spring Quarter 2007 Individual Competition Three runs: Run 1 – Random selection of – Starting location, Package color (i.e., IR code), Package location, SUN location – as will be done during final competition. Run 2 – Faculty/Staff Pick of – Starting location, Package color (i.e., IR code), Package location, SUN location. Run 3 – Team chooses – Starting location, Package color (i.e., IR code), Package location, SUN location.

Engineering H193 - Team Project Gateway Engineering Education Coalition P. 5Spring Quarter 2007 Observations from Week 7 Many robots have no correction if they veer off course and hit only one bump sensor. A number of robots would be more successful if some operations “timed out”, rather than waiting forever for something to happen. Some robots actually collided on Friday. While this is not important for individual competition, your team might want to observe what happens when other robots go ‘off course’. How might your robot be affected? How might you recover?
