2 2 UMass Transit Demographics  Pioneer Valley Transit Authority has 23 member communities. Population 600,000  Area is served by 2 operating companies SATCO Lower valley – cities of Springfield, Holyoke and suburbs UMass Transit Northern Valley 8 rural communities Pop: 110,000

4 4 UMass Transit Northern Pioneer Valley  UMass Operating area consists of 8 communities  Largest Amherst and Northampton  Five Colleges –UMass, Amherst College, Smith College, Mount Holyoke College and Hampshire College  The rest of the communities are rural/suburban

5 5 UMass Transit  Operates 40 transit buses 30 at peak  Fare free to all students, faculty & staff of the Five Colleges  Service from 6am to 3 am 7 days per week during the academic calendar  UMTS operates about 1 millions miles per year, carrying 2.6M passengers and 68,000 revenue hours  15 full time employees and 150+/- part time student employees
