9 th GRADE REGISTRATION FACTS In 9 th grade, students will… – Begin their high school career as a freshman – Earn required credits for high school graduation – Begin their high school Grade Point Average (GPA) – Have the opportunity to earn weighted grades – Begin their high school transcript – Self-select English and Social Studies courses Curiosity Thrives Here

SCIENCE COURSE OPTIONS Physical Science STEM Physical Science – Note: Students who are placed in Algebra 2 will also be placed in STEM Physical Science Chemistry – Note: Students who successfully complete LEaP II in 8 th grade will be placed in Chemistry Curiosity Thrives Here

SOCIAL STUDIES COURSE OPTIONS Global Studies Advanced Placement (AP) Human Geography – Students who are successful in AP Human Geography: Have a high level of academic curiosity and motivation Want to pursue knowledge further and deeper Are able to maintain a high level of organization with time, class materials, and assignments Have a mature, focused work ethic and are able to maximize learning time in and out of the classroom Have strong reading, notetaking and writing skills and are able to read a college level text, create summarizing notes and express themselves clearly in writing – Weighted grade – AP Exam in the Spring Curiosity Thrives Here

ELECTIVE COURSE OPTIONS Notes: Courses with an asterisk require an application AFNR & I580 are offered through SAHS and students who register for these courses will be transported to SAHS for 1 st hour World Language – level one may not be offered in 10 th grade at SAHS so start now! POST-SECONDARY PLANNING College admissions considerations: – High GPA & Class Rank 3.0 (B average) = top 50% of graduating class – High score on College Entrance Exam ACT and/or SAT – Academic Rigor Appropriate amount of rigor for student skill set Goal is to earn A grades and B grades – World Language 2+ consecutive years of a single World Language Curiosity Thrives Here
