1 Study of New Energy Sources Georgia Studies and Language Arts Components

2 Use a Georgia map to complete the following activities: 1. Locate and label all schools with an installed solar panel. 2. Locate and label five other energy sources (besides solar) located in Georgia that could be used to replace fossil fuels in the future. 3. Create a key for each energy source. 4. Identify the geographic land region where each source is primarily located.

3 Research potential future energy sources and answer the following questions in complete sentences and/or paragraphs: 1.What are fossil fuels? 2.Why are these six energy sources being investigated by utility companies? 3.What are the benefits and the disadvantages of using each source? 4.Why might there be limits on the locations where each source can be used? (Consider elevation, climate, seasons, natural resources, etc.) 5.Briefly explain how each energy source converts to electricity for our home and business use?

4 Questions for research (continued) 6. Is each source cost effective? Why or why not? (Consider costs of equipment, production, maintenance, repairs, facilities, etc.) 7. What role does the government play in the production and distribution of energy? 8. How do various energy sources affect the economy of the region(s) where it is produced and/or distributed?
