2 Key Priorities in Student Affairs in 2014-2015 * Focus on technology. How to use technology to provide more effective and more efficient services for students and academic staff. * Retention – Appointing a First Year Experience and Retention Coordinator. * Increasing entry routes (e.g. Cluster Pathways). Increase equity and opportunity of access. * Volunteering/Civic Engagement/Community Engagement – Increase number of students who volunteer. * Quality Review (November 2014) – Implement recommendations. * Increase internal cross collaboration (Counselling with Disability Support Services, all ‘Access’ offices and external (FE and HE partners) * Set up new centre of excellence in UL – Education Assistive Technology Centre.

Admission of all undergraduate only students to UL – c. 2,600 students on to 71 Level 8 (Degree) and 1 Level 6 undergraduate Degree programmes Liaises with: Academic Departments, other admitting offices (Mature, Access, Disability Support) Lifelong Learning International and Erasmus Office (Re admission of all undergraduate students) Student Academic Administration (SAA) Information Technology Division (ITD) Works closely with CAO on processing 1 st /2 nd round offers Determines the points scores for admission to undergraduate programmes Provides the University with market information on potential numbers of applicants, feeder schools, points achieved, number of 1 st preferences, provisional number of New Entrants. Member of UL’s MERC Orientation and Enrolment – Data input of students on SI System On campus events – Open Days – Open Evenings Career Guidance – Higher Options Exhibition, UL Roadshow, meetings Irish Career Guidance Council School visits. Promotion of courses Collaborations with other 3 rd level institutions, government educational agencies, 2 nd level schools and the general public. QMS Maintenance

Responsible for initiatives aimed at students from socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds in both primary and secondary schools Aspiration-raising events to encourage 1 and 2 (primary and secondary) school children to consider University Primary school programmes include ‘Fun-to-Learn’, ‘Home work club’, ‘Out of school tuition’ etc. Orientation Programme (intensive 1 week) (TUC) Shadowing days School visits Parent Meetings Access Course (13 weeks) management HEAR Scheme, Direct Entry Route, 13-week Access Programme Community initiatives – UL/LEDP Access Campus Support – geared towards individual student needs Advice – Academic and Financial Supports other initiatives around the area of Traveller and ethnic minority programmes Administers Student Assistance Fund (NDP-funded). WEB page Researches on access activities and initiatives Provides advice and direction to students on Learner Support Centres  Writing Skills (Centre for Teaching and Learning)  Mathematics Skills (Maths Learner Centre)  Computer Centre  Science Skills (Science Learning Centre)  Language Tutorials (Language Learning Centre) Career Guidance (Liaison with Cooperative Education and Careers Division) Library Skills (LIS) Runs Mature Student Induction Programme Provides information on courses, supports application process and student life QMS Maintenance

Provides a comprehensive primary care – not a GP service – for all students. Includes a nurse clinic, a physiotherapy clinic, a psychiatry clinic and doctors’ clinics Staff: Director, 2 sessional medical practitioners, 1 nurse, 1 psychiatrist, 1 physiotherapist and 1 administrator Clinics promoting student sexual health including  Screening for STDs  Crisis pregnancy interventions Clinics for students with asthma and weight management concerns. Dedicated travel clinics (vaccinations) Sports medicine consultations Provides an important support role in other aspects of University business  I-Grade facilitation  Policy developments e.g. health promoting initiatives  Sudden unexpected situations (e.g. mumps outbreak)

Provides professional Counselling Service – psychological counselling Staff: Head, 5 sessional counsellors, 3 interns, 3 trainees, 2 assistant psychologists, 1 administrator Consultations for critical and emergency cases Drop-in service for critical and emergency cases Advice and support for ALL students with problems including, depression, anxiety, eating disorder, personality issues, mental health issues, social skills, bereavement, substance abuse and sexual abuse Student CONNECT (Student Peer Mentoring) Health Promotion Activities e.g. Sexual Health Provides important support role in other aspects of University business Placements for students on other programmes Para-counselling courses (for academic staff) Trains academic advisors Plays an important role in the I-Grade system Counsellors contribute to research, community and professional service activities Supports and Monitors Campus Alcohol Policy QMS Maintenance

The Chaplaincy’s main areas of focus are Outreach, Support and Religious Services Staff: 3 Chaplains (2 Catholic, 1 Church of Ireland) Develops and fosters relationships with students and staff to provide an increasingly ecumenical service that offers strength, support and spiritual guidance. Provides and coordinates religious services Manages the Teach Fáilte drop-in centre Student oriented liturgies Special campaigns e.g. Trócaire Lenten Campaign Supports student Clubs and Societies One-to-one meetings with students in times of crisis e.g. bereavement, financial difficulty, encouragement of social outreach Manages and organises activities that focus on the Contemplative Centre Coordinates all necessary arrangements in the event of the loss of a student Assists in times of crises (including financial) Administers the University’s Hardship Fund QMS Maintenance

Works within UL’s Access Policy and ULs Community Engagement goals and strategy. Recognises, contacts and encourages community participation and provides administrative support. Supports UL’s Access Goals: Develops and delivers e.g. Parents in Education Programme, Community Education (Engagement) Programmes, Community Law Programme, Irish programme for parents. Works in collaboration with local and regional further educational colleges and adult education colleges to develop accessible pathways to UL for their students. Coordinates UL’s President’s Volunteer Award (PVA) Programme. Supports students, campus voluntary organisations and external community/voluntary organisations to create and sustain volunteering opportunities. Works with Limerick City and County working groups: (e.g. Limerick City and County Integration Groups, RAPID) for the purpose of delivering on social inclusion policies and programmes Works in collaboration with a broad range of community development organisations, locally and regionally to develop volunteering opportunities for UL students and staff – e.g.  Probation and Linkages Limerick (PALLs)  Limerick Youth Services (City and County)  Limerick City and County Community Development Projects (CDPs)  VEC’s locally and regionally etc.  Collaborates with UL Cooperative Education and Careers Office to secure voluntary community coop placements  Collaborates with UL International Office to meet the needs of study abroad students in terms of community engagement activities.

Works to encourage and deliver diverse forms of creative expression for students and staff Manages and organises a programme of annual activities  Film  Festival and UL Drama Society productions  Dance  Concerts  Comedy  Lectures  Outreach activities  Workshops  Alternative events Develops and Maintains the Living Art Wall in Eden Restaurant Collaborates closely with student Clubs and Societies and the Students’ Union Chairs the UL Arts and Sports Support Fund Committee and liaises with the Ulster Bank Enablement Fund QMS Maintenance
