3 What is CIC? The Convention Industry Council (CIC) is a federation of 33 national and international associations representing all aspects of the meeting, convention, and exhibition industry. INCLUDING SGMP. The CIC owns and administers the Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) certification.

4 Certified Meeting Professional  (CMP  ) Certification Program “Governed “ and administered by the CIC Not an individual membership, but a professional designation CMP is owned and managed by the CIC. CIC member organizations provide study groups for CMP preparation Follows best certification practices

5 The CMP History Began in 1985 by The Convention Liaison Council Always “Certified Meeting PROFESSIONAL”, not planner Began as a response to increase the professionalism of meeting managers Only industry certification endorsed by all 33 CIC member organizations

10 The CMP Process 1.Fill out the online application and submit to CIC for approval http://myaccount.conventionindustry.org 2. Receive approval notification from CIC (within 6-8 weeks of application) 3. Pay exam fee to CIC 4. Schedule your exam date with Prometric 5. Sit for the CMP Exam (within one year of receiving approval)

11 Completing the Application Make a copy of application, do a draft Submit completed original application to CIC along with required documentation & application fee NEW – online submission can be done at any time 24/7/365

12 Application Requirements A minimum of three years work experience in meeting management Responsibility and accountability for the successful completion of meetings Industry internship consisting of a minimum of 200 hours of work experience in last 5 yrs OR 25 Continuing Education Hours in CIS Domains

13 Eligibility Application submission fee valid for one calendar year. Candidates have one calendar year from the time they are approved to take and pass the exam. Calendar Year starts as soon as CIC notifies applicants of their approval to take the exam.

14 Exam Deadlines You may take the CMP Exam at any of the four windows of time the CMP Test is offered Jan 22-31, 2015 May 7-16, 2015* August 6-15, 2015 November 5-14, 2015* *Includes CMP-HC testing

23 Exam Info Exam items undergo review process - CMP item writers, the CMP Board of Directors Exam Committee & the testing agency Items measure competency and skill Writing & reviewing questions ongoing process to keep exam current

24 Exam Info Each test comprised of a new selection from the CMP “Item Bank” CMP “Item Bank,” is a database of test questions prepared by CMPs at CMP Conclaves Exam is designed to measure competency rather than academic excellence Exam is scored as either pass or fail

25 Test Format and Score 165 multiple choice items (questions) 3 1/2 hours * You may comment on items Computer Based Testing at Prometric Test Center Instant feedback on pass or fail

26 Recertification Initial certification is valid for five years Complete a recertification application CMPs who recertify on time, do not have to take another exam to be recertified! Based on continued employment, education and professional contributions

27 Certified Government Meeting Professional  (CGMP  ) CGMP is owned and managed by SGMP. Not an individual membership, but a professional designation CGMP Test is offered at least 2-3 times annually - once at NEC and other times as scheduled.

28 CGMP History SGMP recognized a certification was needed specifically designed for planners and suppliers whose work is governed by the rules and regulations of the federal government. Developed in 2005 as joint program between SGMP and the Graduate School at USDA. 2010 SGMP took the CGMP over from the Graduate School and is now solely responsible for the content, the classes, and the examination. 2013 CGMP Handbook was revised
