Tekes’ primary objective is to promote the competitiveness of Finnish industry and the service sector by technological means. 7 Objectives of Tekes Excellence in R&D ensures a strong national knowledge base Excellent R&D increases in Finland with more companies and research organisations participating. This strengthens the national knowledge base in sectors and clusters vital to the national economy and society as a whole. Internationalisation of innovation The Finnish innovation environment offers companies and research units an excellent framework for adopting and utilising existing international knowledge as well as for networking with high-level international partners to create new knowledge and business opportunities. Innovative high-growth companies The number of technology-based companies increases; they grow more rapidly and create new job opportunities. 18 Some well-being / healthcare related programmes
COMBIO - Commercialisation of Biomaterials Biomaterials in health care have become rapidly expanding and interesting business. One of the main reasons for that is the ageing western population. Many failures in an ageing human body can be restored with biomaterials. Innovation in Foods The Innovation in Foods programme concentrates on the links between foods and health, examining how developments in food science can help to reduce the risks of digestive problems, heart diseases and cancer. The programme aims to promote consumer-oriented product development and commercial applications of new food technologies. Drug biomedicine, drug development and pharmaceutical technology Drug 2000 is a technology programme focused on biomedicine, drug development and pharmaceutical technology. The programme was launched by Tekes in the beginning of 2001 and is implemented in two periods of three years each. The Academy of Finland will participates in the programme NeoBio - Novel Biotechnology Tekes, the National Technology Agency of Finland launched the NeoBio technology programme in October 2001. The goal of the programme is to advance the development and application of modern biotechnological methods in product R&D across industry sectors, as well as the emerging of new, internationally competitive businesses. iWell - Turning well-being technology into a success story A technology programme for funding innovation, product development and research. iWell was a technology Programme which focuses on the development of competitive well-being technology for world markets. In addition to commercial and social considerations, attention is also focused on physical and mental well-being to give Finns better opportunities for healthy and independent living. FinnWell - Healthcare technology programme The objective of the five-year programme is to improve the quality and profitability of healthcare, and to promote business activities and export in the field.
