Learning Independence

Who Decides? When to start studying for the Calculus Final? When to work on that report for Communications? If you should take on a part time job? CLASS TIME: (at most) 23 hour/week HOURS IN WEEK: 24 x 7 = 168 hours total TIME FOR WORK: 168 - 23 = 145 hours/week Whether you receive grade of A+ or F? 168 HOURS IN WEEK - 23 -- in class - 2 x 23 -- study: 2 hours (min) per class hour - 7 x 7 -- sleeping - 21 x 1 -- meals - 7 x 2 -- shower, dress, transportation - 7 x 2 -- email, phone, twitter/LinkedIn, etc TIME FOR WORK = 1 hour

What is Engineering? What is Computer Science? Applied Mathematics Speak the language of Mathematics... Your Engineering and Computer Science problems will not be difficult.
11
What is Engineering & Computer Science?
12
Learning Requires.... Repetition, discussion, practice Create a study group Make sure everyone in the group can do everything Never put your name on something that you did not do Attend instructor office hours / Go to Help Desks Introduce yourself and talk about the course If you don't have a question, just come and listen Do homework that is assigned Make sure you can do anything (not just the questions that were on the assignment.)
13
Studying & Time Management Plan your week Schedule time for every course Don't delay things that are difficult Plan for the unexpected After everything is done: Schedule in a little (not a lot of) fun time
14
Choices in Your Program? You are registered in 5 or 6 classes You are planning on doing well You can't seem to get everything done You don't want to fail or get bad marks But you are afraid you might? Other course schedules are possible See your program advisor: - Jane Guy (Bachelor of Science - Computer Science) - LeAnne Golinsky (Bachelor of Engineering & Bachelor of Software Engineering programs)
