6 Being a leader on your team 1.Good team leaders know their people; 2.Get to know your team by listening to what they have to say; 3.It is your job to build trust with your team members; 4.Walk your talk means you have to let people know you; 5.Being open to all ideas will build a solid foundation. 11 Research suggests there are 4 factors which influence team effectiveness and team development: Relationships – Roles – Goals - Processes

12 Relationships – How team members interact  Do team members share and discuss feelings, attitudes, and emotions as they work closely together to achieve tasks?  Are working relationships positive, open, and cooperative?  Does the team have a clear set of values that govern interactions?

15 Roles – Who does what on the team  Do team members discuss openly what they need from each other in order to do their work?  Do team members know where they fit in and how their personal efforts contribute to the success of the team?  Are authority and controls well defined?

17 Goals – What the team is trying to accomplish  Do team members agree on their core mission?  Is there clarity of goals and agreement on priorities?  Is progress toward goals and objectives regularly reviewed by the team?

19 Processes – How the team accomplishes work  Are ground rules and procedural guidelines clearly defined for the team?  Are performance standards and expectations well defined and agreed upon?  How individual efforts are rewarded  How team efforts are rewarded

27 When your team is not in Balance Team members will:  lose time with their family  have less social time with friends  become too tired to deal with life  worry that the office can’t function without them  Feel guilty for taking leisure time  Skip taking vacations  Develop stress and health issues  will eventually sabotage success if they neglect these areas in their life: health, family, financial, intellectual, social, professional, spiritual
