2 Roles and Responsibilities Accept and support the mission, vision, and goals of the ERF Is a participating donor Is an effective fundraiser Attends scheduled meetings and participates in scheduled conference calls Voices an opinion on issues Carries out Board and Committee assignments Fiduciary – ethical and prudent use of funds

3 What is Our Mission? The mission of the ERF is to advance excellence in healthcare through the support of education and research in nuclear medicine and molecular imaging by provision of grants and awards.

4 Vision of the ERF To be an effective fundraising organization, primarily in support of the strategic plan of the Society of Nuclear Medicine, Inc. (SNM)

6 Be a Donor In order to be an effective fundraiser you must show you believe in the cause you are asking others to support. You must lead by example. All members of the Board are expected to be ERF donors.

7 Be an Effective Fundraiser You were asked to become a member of the Board due to your experience, confidence, and personality. Fundraising doesn’t come naturally for everyone. We will provide you with training and the necessary tools to become an effective fundraiser. Teri Pinkham, our Director of Development, will be giving you your first lesson today.

9 Meetings & Conference Calls The BOD meets at least 4 times per year, with at least two of the meetings being face to face Mid-Winter and SNM Annual Meeting Spring and Fall meetings Conference calls are held on a schedule set by the President and may take the place of up to 2 face to face meetings.

10 Each Board member has unique experience and perspective. All of you are leaders in the field. Some of you have financial, grant writing, advocacy, commercial or legal expertise. We want your opinion and perspective on issues we discuss. Read you materials prior to the meeting and be ready to communicate your opinion with thought and tact. Your Opinion Counts

11 Committees of the ERF Executive – Officers + 3 BOD members Board Development – Pres. Elect + 3 BOD members (min.) Finance – Officers + 2 BOD members Fundraising Cassen Committee Special Committees as needed

12 Committees Become a member of at least one committee Make sure you clearly understand your role and function Know your term of membership Understand who you report to and know the time frame for expected commitments Get to know your team members Enjoy doing what you do best

13 Fiduciary Responsibility Reads and understands the financial statements provided Ethical and prudent in carrying out ERF responsibilities Acts in the best interest of the ERF and its contributors

14 Time, Time, Time Understand that you are making a commitment of your time – Fundraising: cultivating donors and promoting ERF giving – 4 meetings per year – Conference calls – Completing committee work assignments – Working at the ERF booth at the SNM Annual Meeting

15 Expectations Two absences in a year are considered excessive and you may be asked to reconsider your service to the Board When a question is sent by e-mail you are expected to respond in a timely fashion (1-3 working days) Let the President and/or ED know of your other commitments as soon as possible

16 Need to Know How to book travel – setting up a profile with Garber Travel How to fill out the IRS required “Contributory Time” form How to fill out the “Travel Expense Reimbursement” form and due date
