Table of Contents Title/Assignment Name P. # Your first 2 pages are for your TOC. Skip two pages then label that page, 1 in the bottom right hand corner. EVERY notebook check will have points for your Table of Contents. If it is not complete viz. there are no page numbers, no titles, or missing assignments; you will NOT receive full credit. How do you set up your paper for Cornell Notes? 1.Title/Topic and Date are ALWAYS at the top. 2.Fold/separate page about 1/4 of the way in. 3.Key questions/ideas or Standards on the left and your notes on the right side of the line/fold. 4.Input/notes (what I give you) is on right. Notes in class, Lab write ups etc.. Output= H.W. Vocab, etc… Its what YOU do. INPUT OUTPUT 2. Why do we use Cornell notes? It organizes our thoughts. It is easy to review…STUDY! It is easy to do! 3. Science = Observation Sir Isaac Newton Newton was a scientist in the 1600’s. The story goes that one day while sitting in his orchard drinking tea, an apple fell and hit him on the head. From that point he studied why, he observed. He concluded that the moon, the earth and literally everything was affected by gravity. Gravity was a puller. The stronger the pull, the more gravity. Have you ever asked why? Have you ever taken anything apart?

The Nature of Science Main Idea : How do we “do” science? Scientists observe. Sometimes your observations/assumptions/hypothesis could be false, or not what you expected, but does that make your “experiment” a failure? Many scientists have had revolutionary breakthroughs because of something in their experiment that they did not account for…. For example….

Science = Observation PROVE IT! Science tests what we can see… So lets see what you see….. Many professions rely on their ability to observe… Different points of view/emotions will give produce observations.

Shoe Lab Observation 1: Find a show on the other side of the room and write 5 things about that shoe from where you sit. 30 seconds. Observation 2: Look again and record 5 more things Observation 3: Look AGAIN! What judgements/inferences can you make about that person based on their shoe whether you are right or wrong? Sometimes “observations” aren’t just looking. What decisions or judgments could you make just by looking at your shoes? Name 4 professions you think observations would be a critical skill to have?
