The Management Development Unit (MDU) at London Metropolitan University is a leading provider of innovative consultancy, training and development since 1970 and is recognised as a Centre of Excellence by the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (CIPS) for the quality and flexibility of its CIPS Graduate Diploma programmes and is supported by a number of key organisations in both the public and private sectors. Our programmes make use of MCIPS specialist practitioners, consultants, and our extensive learning resources include multimedia and case studies. The Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (CIPS) is the globally recognised professional Institute for everyone working in purchasing, procurement or supply chain management. CIPS exists to promote and develop high standards of professional skill, ability and integrity among all those engaged in purchasing and supply chain management. CIPS assists individuals, organisations and the profession as a whole. Established in 1932, CIPS have grown to become the central reference for industry best practice and there code of conduct is the standard around the world. In 1992 CIPS were awarded a Royal Charter in recognition of their status as a centre of excellence and support for the profession. CIPS

The CIPS ladder of qualifications incorporates six levels and therefore extends from Level 2 to Level 7. Level 2 Introductory Certificate in P & S Level 3 Certificate in P & S Level 4 Foundation Diploma in P & S Level 5 Advanced Diploma in P & S Level 6 Graduate Diploma in P & S Level 7 Executive Diploma in P & S Management To achieve MCIPS members must successfully complete the Levels 4, 5 & 6 and together with 3 years’ relevant work experience they can become full members and use the designatory letters “MCIPS” CIPS Qualifications, Levels 2 to 6 MDU

CIPS Level 2 – Introductory Certificate in Purchasing & Supply

CIPS Level 2 Aim: This is a stand alone qualification which covers the basic principles of purchasing & supply Entry requirements: None Content: One unit - four elements Assessment: E-examination – online test Study mode: Three-day programme or Flexible Distance Learning with on-line support and mock exam For further information please consult our CIPS level 2 leaflet

CIPS Level 3 – Certificate in Purchasing & Supply

CIPS Level 3 Aim: This is a progressive stage that will prepare individuals for Diploma/Degree level future learning. It is also a standalone stage in the CIPS ladder of learning that recognises individuals have qualified at a precursory level corresponding to their job activity/role. Progression to CIPS Graduate Diploma Programme Delegates who have successfully completed the CIPS Foundation Diploma in Purchasing and Supply will be able to progress to the CIPS Graduate Diploma: CIPS Level 4 (5 modules) leading to the CIPS Foundation Diploma in Purchasing and Supply CIPS Level 5 (5 modules) leading to the CIPS Advanced Diploma in Purchasing and Supply award CIPS Level 6 (5 modules) leading to the CIPS Graduate Diploma in Purchasing and Supply award Successful completion of the CIPS Graduate Diploma together a minimum of three years relevant work experience leads to full Corporate Membership of CIPS (MCIPS).

CIPS Level 4 – Foundation Diploma in Purchasing & Supply

Aim: The CIPS Level 4 provides the first stage of learning for individuals seeking to progress and complete further stages of the CIPS ladder to qualify them as a purchasing and supply professional. Additionally, it acts as a standalone stage that recognises individuals who have qualified at a primary level that corresponds to their job activity/role. Entry requirements: Either 2 A levels or equivalent as determined by CIPS, successful completion of CIPS level 2 or 3 or 2 year relevant experience. CIPS Level 5 – Advanced Diploma in Purchasing & Supply

CIPS Level 5 Aim: The CIPS Level 5 has been developed to equip the individual with the knowledge and skills to operate with confidence in the managerial aspects of purchasing and supply. It provides the second stage of learning for an individual seeking to progress and complete further stages of the CIPS ladder to qualify them as a purchasing and supply professional. Additionally, it acts as a standalone stage that recognises individuals have qualified at an intermediate level that corresponds to their job activity/role. Entry requirements: Must have successfully completed CIPS level 4 or be been exempted Content: 3 compulsory units plus 2 optional Assessment : Examination Study mode: Modular block release programme or Flexible Distance Learning with on-line support and mock exam; For further information please consult our CIPS level 5 leaflet

CIPS Level 6 – Graduate Diploma in Purchasing & Supply

CIPS Level 6 Aim: providing individuals with extensive knowledge at the strategic level in purchasing and supply. In attainment of this, and having demonstrated that they have three years experience in a relevant purchasing and supply role, individuals will have the designatory letters ‘MCIPS’ and a Certificate of Full Membership bestowed on them by the Institute. The individual will therefore, have achieved the status of a purchasing and supply professional defined by the Institute as:- One who has, through a programme of learning, gained an underpinning knowledge and understanding of the tools, techniques, models and methodologies of purchasing and supply - One who has applied this within a work context thereby adding value to the organisation.
