TOBACCO FREE CAMPUS January 1, 2008, Policy # 3364-60-01, The University of Toledo Health Science Campus and satellite facilities became smoke-free and tobacco- free; and effective April 3, 2014, the policy was expanded to prohibit the use of electronic cigarettes, otherwise known as e- cigarettes August 1, 2011 after discussion with The University of Toledo Board of Trustees, Policy # 3364-60-09 the Main Campus, Scott Park Campus, Center for Visual Arts, Lake Erie Center and Stranahan Arboretum became tobacco-free, with the exception of “Designated Tobacco Use Areas” July, 23, 2012 Ohio Board of Regents recommended Ohio University System go Tobacco Free December 3, 2013, The University of Toledo Faculty Senate via a Resolution requested “that the administration take the necessary steps to modify the University of Toledo policy to create a tobacco-free university system (tobacco, smokeless tobacco, snus & electronic cigarettes) including all facilities January 17, 2014, the University Council recommended that “The University of Toledo ban the use of tobacco products on all campuses and align the necessary resources to enforce that

WHY TOBACCO FREE THE UNIVERSITY OF TOLEDO BOARD OF TRUSTEES - RESOLUTION NO. 14-04-08 that the Board of Trustees of The University of Toledo has determined that its campuses and satellite locations shall be smoke-free and tobacco-free; that the prohibition shall apply to tobacco, smokeless tobacco, snuff/snus and electronic cigarettes; that the prohibition applies to the marketing and sale of tobacco products; that tobacco cessation programs shall be made available to students, faculty and staff; that University policies be revised to provide for a smoke-free and tobacco- free environment both in indoor and outdoor spaces; and that the President is authorized to take any and all necessary steps to implement this resolution, the revised policies and enforcement of the policies

7. WHAT IS THE POLICY? Tobacco product use is prohibited in all buildings, grounds, parking areas, and spaces Except for expressly noted exceptions this policy applies consistently to all faculty, staff, students, visitors, patients and contractors of The University of Toledo: (1) Main Campus (2) Health Science Campus (3) Scott Park Campus (4) UTMC clinical satellite locations (5) Center for the Visual Arts (6) Lake Erie Center 1. 8. WHAT IS THE POLICY? Definitions- Tobacco Products: All tobacco-derived obtaining products, including but not limited to cigarettes (clove, bidis, kreteks), electronic cigarettes or nicotine vaporizers, cigars, cigarillos, hookah smoked products, pipes, oral tobacco (e.g., spit and spitless, smokeless, chew, snuff) and nasal tobacco. It also includes any product intended to mimic tobacco products, contain tobacco flavoring or deliver nicotine other than for the purpose of cessation. Tobacco-free policy exceptions (a) This policy does not constrain approved academic research on tobacco conducted for an academic purpose in a controlled laboratory environment.

COMPLIANCE & ENFORCEMENT If you see a person smoking on UT property:  Be polite and friendly  Assume that the person does not know about the policy  Explain that tobacco use is not permitted on UT property  If the person refuses to comply and becomes hostile, simply walk away and contact Campus Police
