2. PCC Tobacco-Free Policy: B-709 The Board of Directors adopted the policy in March 2009 The policy states: Facilities owned by Portland Community College will be tobacco free, effective September 9, 2009. This applies to all those on PCC property

The Role of Public Safety Approach and remind anyone observed smoking on campus that PCC is tobacco free Use their discretion to determine the best response to a violation of the policy May issue a warning or a citation to those who do not comply with the tobacco free policy May report students repeatedly in violation to the Dean of Student Development May report employees who are repeatedly observed smoking to their managers

5. What do you say to someone who is smoking on Campus? It can be intimidating, but remember that as many as 80% of people who smoke want to quit Also remember that you are doing someone a favor by preventing them from incurring a potential $25 fine Try this… “Hello, I’m sure you probably weren’t aware of this but PCC is now tobacco-free. You could receive a $25 ticket for smoking on campus.”

8. What can smokers do while on campus? PCC does not require that anyone stop smoking, but in order to provide a clean and safe academic environment, with access for all, PCC has decided to go tobacco free. There are many over-the-counter nicotine/tobacco replacements available. Many are the same price or less than cigarettes themselves. We encourage those who do not want to quit to create a plan for coping while on campus. Visit a counselor at your campus today for help creating a plan to comply with PCC’s tobacco free policy.
