ABSENCES & LATES (ATTENDANCE POLICY)
REPORTING AN ABSENCE call the school at , and press 1 when requested It is the responsibility of the student to make up all work missed. There is a strong connection between good student attendance and successful achievement. We ask that parents attempt to limit the number of classes missed due to appointments. Religious Holidays , medical appointments…

ABSENCES & LATES (ATTENDANCE POLICY)
LEAVING SCHOOL EARLY / SIGNING OUT a note signed by a parent/guardian must be brought to the Main Office before leaving. In case of illness during the day, the Main Office will attempt to contact a parent/guardian and obtain permission for the student to go home. If contact cannot be made, the student will be asked to remain in the office. If a student has signed out, he/she is not to be on or near school property.

Parents are asked to complete an “Extended Absence” form at least one week in advance of the leave. This form must be signed by the Principal or Vice–Principal and by all classroom teachers. It is the student’s responsibility to catch up on all work missed.

Final Evaluations/Examinations
semester I courses January Semester II courses June 18 – 24 Students who miss exams due to vacations, camp, weddings, summer jobs, university orientation, and other planned excursions will receive a grade of zero. All students are required to participate in the final summative assessments that constitute 30% of the final grade. Students are required to write their exams in the place, at the scheduled time, and on the date indicated on the exam schedule

Medical Information Students with a medical condition or allergy need to report the information to the main office. This information is kept confidential, but will be invaluable in an emergency.

Dress Code Students are expected to dress appropriately for school. Clothing and accessories that are offensive or degrading to them or others will not be tolerated. Tops must meet bottoms and bottoms must meet tops. Undergarments must not be exposed. Administration reserves the full right to deem what is consider offensive or inappropriate. Although clothing is a personal statement,

School Resources TEXTBOOKS AND LIBRARY RESOURCES are school property.
Student ID card is required to borrow books Students are responsible for lost or damaged textbooks or borrowed books from the library. A replacement cost is incurred if they are lost or not returned in good condition.

Information Technology
School Resources Information Technology Students will abide by the school’s Information Technology Acceptable Use Agreement. (p. 37 YRDSB Guide to the school year). Students who do not adhere to this expectation will incur consequences. It is the clear intention that use of the Internet and computer resources be for educational use only. Further information can be found in the Board’s Guide to the school year booklet

Electronic Equipment In the classroom, personal communication devices are disruptive to the learning of others, can infringe upon an individual’s right to privacy We ask that these devices be turned off, and kept out of sight, except when explicitly permitted by the classroom teacher as part of an educational activity. Electronic communication devices may only be used in the corridors and cafeteria of the school. Distributing or posting photo or video materials taken at Langstaff SS is expressly forbidden and may result in serious consequences, including suspension and possible criminal charges.

Lost Items Students are advised not to bring valuables to school. Do not keep valuables, money or expensive clothing in a locker or Phys. Ed. change room as the school is not responsible for missing items. Langstaff Secondary School and the York Region District School Board are not responsible for lost or stolen items. Please keep your valuables at home.

Safe and Supportive Schools
VIDEO SURVEILLANCE All York Region secondary schools are equipped with video surveillance systems. The cameras are to assist in deterring violence, vandalism or any other criminal act. It is the policy of our Board to promote safe and supportive school and work environments in order to optimize student learning and staff effectiveness.

VISITORS TO THE SCHOOL Friends of Langstaff S.S. students who do not attend L.S.S are not permitted to visit the school. If a person comes to Langstaff S.S. on official business, they must sign in at the office.

Community Resources Officers are attached to all schools in YR. They frequently contact the schools and help staff in matters relating to safety, security and well-being. School Resource Officers Tobacco Control Officers
