1 Tradeshow Access Programme A summary of Vic O’Hanlon’s presentation to ATOs February 2009.

2 Rationale  Tradeshow Access Programme: –one of a choice of tools for UKTI to help businesses develop export potential –aimed at helping to break down initial barriers –eligibility aimed primarily at less experienced businesses or those entering new markets –not intended to be a continuing subsidy

3 The Solo scheme  Allows support for businesses where there is no ATO-led group  Alternatively can be used if ATO cannot take business in their group (e.g. a company belongs to a sub-sector not compatible with the group theme)  £1,000 to eligible companies – their contribution to the total cost must be equal to, or greater than this sum  The decision to support a company and their chosen event rests with the Regional International Trade Advisor (ITA)

4 Basic Eligibility  SME or  Govt. funded research organisation, higher or further learning organisation  New to export as defined or  Exporting for less than 10 years or  Didn’t exhibit at the last edition of the event  6 lifetime grants are allowed from 1 April 2009

5 Definitions SME -less than 250 employees -turnover €50m or balance sheet €43m New to Export - Up to 10% of turnover on proactive exports. Can be 25% proactive and reactive combined

6 Trade Fair Definition  The display of products or services on exhibition stands or exhibition areas  Stand space or area designed for an exhibition - not for any additional use  Taking place outside the UK involving exhibitors from more than one country  For trade representatives rather than the public  Shared space, pay-to-speak conferences and other promotional activities may be eligible

7 Commitment from Company at Event  4 square metres minimum floor space or  minimum spend on stand & freight - own contribution must be equal to, or greater than the amount of grant  Must have a full time representative on site for the duration of the exhibition

8 Applying for TAP Support ATOs refer applications to ITAs because:  International Trade Advisers take a view on readiness for support  Eligibility check  Confirm whether the event is a recognised trade fair  Ensure company is introduced to any other relevant UKTI help

9 Application Deadlines  Applicant submits form to ATO 8 weeks prior to event start date  ATO submits form to TAP Team 5 weeks prior to event start date  This allows time for International Trade Adviser (ITA) endorsement The application form and guidelines are available at: www.biopartner.co.uk/TAP.php
