Wrens Elementary School Grant Proposal for Leap Frog Pads
2
Introduction Wrens Elementary School
Wrens Elementary is a non profit organization. It is Wrens Elementary Schools mission to provide a warm and caring environment that promotes and produces students to become productive thinking citizens in our changing world.
3
Project Summary The Leapfrog pads are backed by research showing that Kindergarten students whose reading performance to be below average showed an increase when using the Leapfrogs over a period of three months. These students used the Leapfrogs on an average of four times a week during instructional time with the aide of a Paraprofessional as a supplement to their regular classroom lessons. The Leapfrog has enabled the students to achieve a goal of being able to recognize their letters and letter sounds. The Leapfrogs prove to be very beneficial in helping these students gain autonomy in the classroom among their peers.
4
Literacy Awareness This project will help to fund Literacy Centers in schools that are in rural areas effected by low Socio-economic status. It will provide the funding so that the schools can purchase 5 complete sets of the Leapfrog Program to be used among Pre-K through 2nd grade. Research shows that if students in the early grades acquire the abilities needed to enhance their knowledge of letters and letter sounds then they are much more readily able to begin reading fluently. To read the research on this copy and paste the address below in your browser and read the research.
5
Objectives Students will be able to identify their letters and letter sounds. Students will develop Phonemic Awareness. Students will develop Concepts of Print. Students will develop Print Awareness Explain how the project objectives address the problems you have identified.

Evaluation Discuss how and when the project will be evaluated.
The students will be assessed at the beginning of the school term usually the second to third week of school. The second assessment will be in December which is the end of the first semester. The final assessment will be in March. There will also be a skills assessment every two weeks on a Friday to show the measured growth among the students in areas listed. The students will be assessed using the materials provided in the Leapfrog Program. Once the assessments have been made and the evaluations complete the Literacy Coach will meet with each grade and present their findings. The grade as a whole will then decide on what to focus on as they work to meet the needs of their students.
