1 Cells!! Plant and Animal Cell

2 Animal cell Click on each information button to see a description of the organelle. Copy the definitions into your notebook. Click on button when finished with descriptions.

3 Nucleus A cell structure that contains DNA, the chemical instructions that direct all the cell’s activities.

4 The structure in the nucleus that produces ribosomes.
Nucleolus The structure in the nucleus that produces ribosomes.

5 Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum
A cell structure that forms a maze of passageways that assists in the production, processing, and transport of proteins and lipids. The rough ER appears rough due to the presence of ribosomes on the membrane surface.

6 Ribosomes A small grain-like structure in the cytoplasm or attached to the ER where proteins are made.

7 Nuclear Envelope (membrane)
A membrane that controls what substances enter and leave the nucleus.

8 Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum
Same as Rough ER but appears smooth because there are not ribosomes on the membrane surface.

9 Cytoplasm The region between the cell membrane and the nucleus. It contains a gel-like fluid in which many different organelles are found.

10 Cell organelle that creates spindle fibers during cell division.
Centrioles Cell organelle that creates spindle fibers during cell division.

11 Lysosomes These small organelles contain chemicals that break down food particles, wastes, worn-out cell parts, and foreign invaders.

12 Golgi Apparatus (body)
This cell organelle receives materials through the ER and sends them to other parts of the cell.

13 Cell membrane The cell membrane protects the cell and regulates what substances enter and leave the cell.

14 Vacuole This organelle stores food, water, wastes, and other materials. Not always present in animal cells.

15 Mitochondrion Rod-shaped cell structures that break down sugars to produce most of the energy needed to carry out the cell’s functions.

16 Click on the animal cell to watch the movie.
Click on button when finished viewing movie.

17 Plant Cell Click on each information button to see a description of the organelle. Copy the definitions into your notebook.(you do not have to rewrite the definition if you have it written for an animal cell but you must list the organelle.) Click on button when finished with descriptions.

18 Nucleus A cell structure that contains DNA, the chemical instructions that direct all the cell’s activities.

19 The structure in the nucleus that produces ribosomes.
Nucleolus The structure in the nucleus that produces ribosomes.

20 Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum
A cell structure that forms a maze of passageways that assists in production, processing, and transport of proteins and lipids. The rough ER appears rough due to the presence of ribosomes on the membrane surface.

21 Ribosomes A small grain-like structure in the cytoplasm or attached to the ER where proteins are made.

22 Nuclear Envelope (membrane)
A membrane that controls what substances enter and leave the nucleus.

23 Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum
Same as Rough ER but appears smooth because there are not ribosomes on the membrane surface.

24 Cytoplasm The region between the cell membrane and the nucleus. It contains a gel-like fluid in which many different organelles are found.

25 Chloroplasts A structure in the cells of plants that captures energy from sunlight and uses it to produce food.

26 Cell Wall A rigid layer of cellulose that gives support to the cells of plants and some other organisms.

27 Golgi Apparatus (body)
This cell organelle receives materials through the ER and sends them to other parts of the cell.

28 Cell membrane The cell membrane protects the cell and regulates what substances enter and leave the cell.

29 Vacuole This organelle stores food, water, wastes, and other materials. Not always present in animal cells.

30 Mitochondrion Rod-shaped cell structures that break down sugars to produce most of the energy needed to carry out the cell’s functions.

31 Click on the plant cell to watch the movie.
Click on button when finished viewing movie.

32 Take notes and cell diagrams to Mrs. Guard.
Study the notes and diagrams and be prepared for a quiz.
