5 He had some success competing in bobsleigh championships during the late 1980s, but he is most famous for another sport.

13 Biography Very few people ever experience the exhilaration of winning an Olympic gold medal. Imagine doing it five times! Sir Steve Redgrave has achieved just that, making him the world’s greatest competitive rower and one of Britain’s greatest sportsmen. Competing in two-rower and four-rower events, he won gold at each of the Games between 1984 and 2000. He has also won nine rowing World Championships. After the 2000 Games, Steve Redgrave retired from professional sport, but he remains heavily involved in charity work. Last year, he completed the London Marathon, raising over £1.7 million. His legendary contribution to British sport will be remembered for many years. His example shows that, with hard work and determination, we can all achieve our goals.
