1 CIVIL AIR PATROL LOWER BUCKS SQUADRON 101 Develop your potential at Squadron 101 CADET WELCOME PACKET

2 Welcome to Squadron 101. Our squadron is a unit of the United States Air Force Auxiliary, Civil Air Patrol. Squadron 101 specializes in Ground Search and Rescue, Radio Communications, and Cadet Programs. From our cadet program, our squadron has a proud tradition of producing exceptional leaders. We are excited that you have chosen our squadron for your CAP career. You will find Civil Air Patrol to be a personally rewarding experience. Ryan Kelly, Capt., CAP Commander, Squadron 101

3 Cadet Core Programs Aerospace Education – Civil Air Patrol (CAP) promotes and supports aerospace education, both for Its own members and the public. CAP educational programs help prepare American citizens to meet the challenges of a sophisticated aerospace society and understand its related issues. Cadets are responsible for studying course material and are expected to participate in Aerospace and Leadership examination processes. After successful completion, cadets are promoted in rank and can be assigned leadership positions within the cadet program. Milestone Award Programs – The Cadet Program itself is divided into five phases, dedicated towards learning and growth: »Phase I - Learning Phase - Wright Brothers Award »Phase II - Leadership Phase - General Billy Mitchell Award »Phase III - Command Phase - Amelia Earhart Award »Phase IV - Executive Phase - General Ira C. Eaker Award General Carl A. Spaatz Award - THE GENERAL CARL A. SPAATZ AWARD is Civil Air Patrol’s highest cadet honor. It is presented to cadets who have demonstrated excellence in leadership, character, fitness, and aerospace education. Leadership Education; Drill and Ceremonies – As part of leadership education, cadets participate in drill and ceremonies. Drill is an excellent way to promote teamwork, builds discipline, and develops an appreciation for Air Force traditions. Physical Fitness – The goal of the cadet physical fitness program is to make our cadets physically fit and to motivate them to develop a lifelong habit of exercising regularly. Moral Leadership – Civil Air Patrol encourages youth to live the timeless Core Values of Integrity, Volunteer Service, Excellence, and Respect. CAP develops character in its cadets through formal values education and informal mentoring as ethical dilemmas arise in cadets' lives.

4 Specialty Programs at Squadron 101 The Hawk Mountain Ranger Training Program – Cadets are given the opportunity to advance their leadership, navigation, wilderness survival, medical, search and rescue skills. This program reinforces the training established in the Cadet Leadership Program and Emergency Services Specialty Tracks. Participation in training is offered through out the year (Summer & Winter). Emergency Services & Disaster Relief –CAP teaches emergency services specialty skills that can help others in your community or nation when in need. Our squadron specializes in Ground Team Search & Rescue, Urban Detection Finding (Aircraft Emergency Locator Transmitter [ELT] Searches), Radio Communications, and First Aid. Cadets are required to pass the Leadership 1, Physical Fitness testing and attend one Moral Leadership class for the “Curry” Achievement, prior to testing for the CAP 101-certification process and participate in a limit roll on actual missions. Participation in Emergency Services does not replace the cadet program. All members under the age of 18 must take part in the cadet program. Orientation Flights – Also know as “O – Flights”. Our power orientation flights take off at Northeast Philadelphia Airport and the Glider Flights out of Kutztown Airports. Special Activities - Have fun attending regional air shows, tour aviation museums, and on occasion, travel on USAF Military aircraft.
