3 Brian Hensel Who is Brian Hensel and how will his presence affect my son? 20+ seasons of high character football coaching. Experience at various educational settings including the collegiate and high school levels. National Board Certified Science teacher Currently teaching Chemistry and Forensic Science at CB West High School. Integral member within the larger framework of the CB School District.

4 Organization, preparation, motivation, and personalization have defined my successes in both the classroom and the football field. I will NEVER be outworked as a coach or teacher and as a result I refuse to ever be out- coached by the opposition. Communications with Players and Parents Communication expected from Head Coach :  Coaching Philosophy  Expectations of individual players and the team as a whole  Locations and times for all workouts, practices, and contests  Team rules, guidelines, and expectations  Team participation requirements, such as practices, special equipment, off-season workouts, training, and opportunities  Lettering criteria

Communications with Players and Parents Communication expected from Player :  Advanced notification of any scheduled conflicts  Immediate notification of injury or illness  Concerns expressed directly to position coach, then head coach Communication expected from Parents :  Communication with college recruiters  Concerns expressed directly to the head coach, by appointment*

Communications with Players and Parents Appropriate concerns to discuss with a coach:  Concerns you are having with your son’s behavior  Ways to help your son improve  The treatment of your son within the program Inappropriate concerns to discuss with a coach:  Playing time  Team Strategy  Play Calling  Other student-athletes

14 I NDIVIDUAL C OMMUNICATION P LANS D. Communications with Players and Parents * Procedures for communicating concerns with a coach are as follows: 1.Encourage your child to speak directly with his position coach FIRST. Many times natters can be resolved in this manner. 2.Call the coach in advance to set up a meeting appointment. It is never recommended to attempt such a meeting as one is entering or leaving the practice or game field as these can often be emotionally charged times for all. 3.If a coach cannot be reached, contact the athletic director’s office to assist you in making an appointment for a meeting. 4.If the meeting with the coach does not provide a satisfactory resolution, call and set up an appointment with the head coach. 5.If the meeting with the head coach does not provide a satisfactory resolution, call and set up an appointment with the athletic director to discuss the situation.

15 I NDIVIDUAL C OMMUNICATION P LANS E. Communications with Players and Parents Expectations of Parents/Guardians:  Assist your child in establishing challenging, but realistic goals.  Make an emphasis of “Personal Improvement” and not on “Just Win”.  Promote team unity above individuality.  Provide a healthy environment for training and competition.  Provide the nutrition necessary to compete a high level.  Provide an example of respect for your son’s coaches. Communicate with them in a positive way and encourage others to do so.  Try your very best to control your emotions during and following games.  Cheer loud for your child as well as his teammates.  Continue to be a positive force in your child’s life.  Love your child after every game like the first time you held him in your arms.

16 I NDIVIDUAL C OMMUNICATION P LANS F. Communications with College and University Recruiters: 1.Establish and maintain traditional mail and email links to all colleges and universities in the region as well as for those that have recruited the area and the school’s student-athletes. 2.Be truthful of student athlete’s ability levels to create a level of trust in the CB West football program. 3.Promote players who are suitable candidates for the recruiters and do not recommend those student-athletes that will not qualify or cannot compete at a specific level.

17 I NDIVIDUAL C OMMUNICATION P LANS E. Communications with College and University Recruiters: 4.Make sure all players are aware of the NCAA Clearinghouse requirements for participating in an NCAA affiliated program. 5.Make sure all players are aware of your communication and recommendations to colleges and universities before their names are passed on to recruiters. 6.Encourage recruiters to invite players to camps and combines. 7.Encourage recruiters to set up appointments to meet with players and coaches in advance of their arrival at school.
