3 Mid-Semester TA Survey We need one volunteer who will take the envelope to the Office of Student Services This survey is meant to help make me to become a better TA, which will hopefully help you in this course. Please be candid! When you are completed, please put the surveys in the envelope.

4 Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts. Exams

5 That being said… The exams were good; overall class median grade was a B. Prelim is only 20% or 30% of your final grade, which means: even if you failed, you can still get an A- in this class! Come talk to me with questions about this test and on how to study for the next test. Form Study Groups Read the Textbook

7 What you will see on your exam Component and Total Scores: Multiple Choice, Essay, Total Essay Answers receiving full credit accurately outlined the relevant concepts & strongly applied them to the case For essay portion, partial credit was given The TAs took grading the exam extremely seriously. We worked hard to grade the exams consistently and fairly across sections and TAs.

8 Reminder: Re-Grading Policies If you have a question or complaint about a grade: submit this in writing to me/another TA within one week from today Make a case for why you believe your grade is incorrect, providing a detailed account of how your answer meets the criteria for a better grade This request has to be made in written form Prof. Goncalo will ask one of the TA’s (not me) to re- grade,your entire exam Be aware that your grade may go either up or down

9 Looking ahead to next week Next week in lecture, we will be discussing diversity and its perils and promises. On Wednesday, Professor Goncalo will discuss political correctness. Political correctness refers to language, ideas, policies, or behavior that attempts to minimize offense to various groups. Please read the article in order to be prepared for class next week.

10 Group Assignments Does everyone have a group? Is your netid correct? Please take a couple of minutes to set up a first group meeting

11 Group Assignments Remember that a one page proposal is due in lecture on Monday, October 27th! This proposal should list your team members the organization you are studying the job title of your contact person a brief description of the issue you will study If you plan to use a group at Cornell, please look at syllabus

12 An Example Organization: Endive- rock band Contact Person: Jami Schmohe Job Title- Band member, head of merchandise Organizational Issue: Creating a strong organizational culture that promotes creativity, commitment, and unity. Endive has been undergoing extensive changes in its line-up and the generation of a new direction for the band. A strong culture is needed in order to provide a sense of identity and generate commitment to the organization.
