How to Setup a Coral Account How to Use Coral The Materials Engineering Electron Microscopy Facility 1

(1) Setting Up a Billing Account The PI (adviser) for the account has to set up the account and give you access. –This will be your adviser in most cases. Website –http://engineering.purdue.edu/NANO/coralhttp://engineering.purdue.edu/NANO/coral –Needed Info: Account numbers Project Billing Department Students to be given access to the account If you have any problems with the website send the “Needed Info” to: –For other problems contact John Coy 2

(2) Making Contact Individuals seeking training and access: –SEM: Complete MSE 597 or Contact mse-em-admin@ecn.purdue.edu –TEM: Complete MSE 582, MSE 640 or Contact mse-em-admin@ecn.purdue.edu After completing training –Join the appropriate mail list https://engineering.purdue.edu/ECN/mailman/listinfo/ –Contact the appropriate instrument mail list: Request that you Coral permissions be updated Note who trained you or the title of the class Note your user alias (this should be your ecn user name). –Most common reasons for lack of access Failure to fully join necessary mail list Lack of card swipe access or its expiration Lack of Coral account with a valid account number Your alias is different from you e-mail handle (your alias is needed to grant permissions) AFM Users: –Contact Prof. Blendell 3

(3) Card Swipe Access Individuals Seeking Training and Access: –Contact the necessary administrator before applying for card- swipe access Materials Engineering Electron Microscopy Facility Card-Swipe Web Form: –https://engineering.purdue.edu/MSE/Research/Facilities/Micro structural/EM-Microscopy-ARMS/DoorAccesshttps://engineering.purdue.edu/MSE/Research/Facilities/Micro structural/EM-Microscopy-ARMS/DoorAccess –Access is updated manually from the submitted data –The most recent update is posted on the application form 4

(4) Instrument Mail Lists Individuals Seeking Training and Access: –You will be directed to the necessary mail list by the admin or super user performing your training session. 9 Using Equipment & Billing Coral is the method for reservations and billing for the MSE Electron Microscopy Facility –Log Sheets will continue to be used to track usage and comments. Using Coral –Reservations –Enabling a Instrument: This starts the equipment use and is equivalent to signing in on a billing sheet. It also disables the interlocks –Use the instrument. –Disable the Instrument This ends bill and locks out the instrument 9 See subsequent slides for additional details

Reservations Select the equipment from the equipment tree on the left by clicking on it. –Highlight the time slot you would like to use. –Under the Reservation Actions menu, select “Make” –Choose the account and project you would like to use. To cancel a reservation: –select the reservation and chose “Delete” from the Reservation Actions menu. –Note: Equipment you are qualified on will have an asterisk next to it. 10 The above is what the screen should look like as you reserve time on the T300

Using an Instrument To “Enable” the System: –Select the equipment you want to use. –Under the Equipment Actions menu, select Enable –This starts the equipment use and is equivalent to signing in on a billing sheet. Use the equipment. Disable the Instrument –When you are finished with the equipment, select Disable from the Equipment Actions menu. 11

Reporting Equipment Problems Report Equipment Issues: –Select the instrument in Coral. –Under the Equipment Actions menu, select the appropriate level of notification. Equipment Action Levels: Make comment: This is for when you need to communicate with the staff about a non-critical equipment issues. (ie. Glove have run out, one of the magnification relays is buggy) Report problem: This will change the green arrow to yellow. This action is for equipment that is not performing at 100%, but is still usable. (ie. The instrument is taking too long to pump down) Shutdown (Admin Only): This will change the stoplight to RED. It is for equipment that is not functional. (ie. The filament burned out.) 12

Viewing Reported Issues Click on the instrument of interest –Select the Maintenance tab –Select the desired Comment, Problem or Shutdown message Click Show Message 13

Don’t Forget to Log Out 14
