2 2 GCSX and NHS connectivity GCSX and NHSMail Already able to share Patient Identifiable Data securely via email between NHSmail users and GCSX users GCSX-N3 Interconnect Project Government Connect now leading a joint project with DH and NHS delivering secure bi-directional connectivity between GCSX and N3 (GCSX/N3 Gateway) Benefits Cost effective N3 connectivity using existing infrastructure Improved business cooperation between local authorities and NHS Trusts Costs Establishment of service and running costs to 31 March 2011 funded by Government Connect Costs thereafter will be published later this year Indicative costs represent good value compared to separate N3 connectivity Aim is to ensure costs to users reflect cost to provide the service and user costs to decrease as number of service users goes up

4 4 What will the GCSX/N3 Interconnect Enable? Local Authority Access to N3 Spine Services Available to local authority GCSX customers Local authorities must be compliant with the NHS Information Governance Toolkit ‘Social Care Delivery’ view N3 service to be ordered through the existing GSi Request for Change Process Authentication to Spine services will be managed through local Registration Authority arrangements Service will be managed as a GCSX service Access to NHS Organisations’ Local Applications PCTs can request to make their own internal applications available for appropriate local authority view Access to Local Authorities’ Local Applications LAs can request to make their own internal applications (e.g. Social Care Application) available for appropriate NHS organisation view.
