4 History of SharePoint @ UVM Summer 2004 – SharePoint Services v2 setup as a “demo” Spring 2005 – CTL staff assist faculty in setting up project sites, thus making SharePoint “production”. 2005-2006 – Service usage increases slowly, with about 50 sites in active use. Jan 1, 2007 – sharepoint.uvm.edu upgraded to v3, usage triples in one year. Summer 2007 – RADEditor from telerik.com added to improve support for Firefox and Safari browsers Today – Over 200 sites created

15 Red Light Tweak your site “to within an inch of its life”. Install web parts and site templates from un- trusted sources. Create “tons” of sub- sites under your top- level site collection (limit to five or six). Suffer in silence

16 Yellow Light: Use SharePoint Designer to create workflows for your documents. Experiment with Groove and Outlook as SharePoint clients. Integrate content from external sources (http, xml, databases)

17 Green Light: Experiment with site creation and customization using “out of box” templates. Use “Document Versioning” (not the default). Use Excel and Access to connect to SharePoint. Complain to management. Ask questions on: SharePoint@list.uvm.edu SharePoint@list.uvm.edu Ask your IT support staff to join the CAMPUS domain.
