2 Waterbury Branch Line Proposed major improvements will support growth in already developed corridor. help focus development in areas that already have necessary infrastructure o avoid greenfield development & loss of open space support redevelopment of historic town & urban centers o adaptive re-use of existing facilities o in-fill development in vacant & abandoned sites o can support re-use of brownfield sites

3 Waterbury Branch Line Proposed rail improvements: upgrade of existing single track rail line improve operational efficiency to provide more frequent service o goal: 30-minute peak period service o requires major improvements to tracks & facilities scale & cost will likely require phasing improvements over time

4 Early phase operational improvements Goal: increase peak period service Existing: A.M. = 2 trains, P.M. = 1 train Possible: A.M. = 3 trains, P.M. = 3 train Actions needed: full signalization 4 passing sidings Combination allows 2 trains to safely operate on track at same time Beacon Falls Ansonia Seymour Naugatuck Waterbury Derby-Shelton Milford Stratford

14 CT DOT bike & pedestrian initiatives DOT is moving to a policy position that is much more supportive of trails & efforts to make our communities more bike and pedestrian friendly. option to convert from 4 lanes to 2 lanes with trail Route 8 corridor study: concept for modifying Main St and South Main St in Beacon Falls.
