8 LEADERSHIP STRUCTURE AND PROCEDURES FOR ELECTION OF CHAIRS / VICE-CHAIRS The list of responsibilities of the Group and Area Chairs / Vice-Chairs, as well as the election procedure was distributed and is maintained by the Group Chair Leadership of Group 12 and Areas 12a and 12b is in place area 12 b chair resignation The new leadership mandate to the Fall of 2000 in order to allow implementation and consolidation of the new structure (LA ‘97) proposal to move Group election to 1999 Champions for future Areas 12c and 12d have been identified (CH ‘97, LA’97, NO ’98) elections for chairs/vice-chairs in Dallas 1999 July 9, 1999 Current Activities

9 NEW AREAS DEVELOPMENT Survey conducted by Cawas Cooper for Technology Transfer - presented in LA ‘97 Group DL survey has identified a the number of people with interest in this field - DL contains identifier for each area / future area 1999 Dallas Topical Conference has one /two session for each of the future areas 2000 Atlanta Topical Conference has three session for Technology Transfer 2000 LA has one session for Technology Transfer Two Champions for each of the future Areas 12c and 12d July 9, 1999 Current Activities

11 FUTURE COMMITTEE MEETINGS Separate meetings for the Process Development (Group) Committee meeting and Area meetings started in Miami Beach 1998 The group dinner : immediately after the Group Committee meeting Potential session chairs / co-chairs and session titles to be identified before the committee meeting by the Area Chairs/ Vice-Chairs to streamline to selection process (TBD - Area Chairs/Vice-Chairs) ? Other meeting activities, such as benchmarking, where people talk about their organization, or round table discussions on specific topics were to be continued (not done) July 9, 1999 Current Activities

12 STEERING COMMITTEE MEETINGS ‘ 97 Chicago Meeting was an excellent start ‘98 New York Meeting move from July 10 to July 24 - created some attendance problems ‘99 Toronto / Mississauga - best attendance yet July 9, 1999 Current Activities need for Future Steering Committee Meetings ? If yes, at special location or at the Annual AIChE Meetings ?

13 INDUSTRY / ACADEMIA PARTICIPATION Explore joint sessions with a principally academic group, e.g., Reaction Engineering (Area Chairs / Vice-Chairs) Use Topical Conference in the Fall of 1999 in Dallas to enhance this interaction Compile a list of Universities active in process research (Ka Ng) Seek support from AIChE’s Education Group, as well as from academia who provide consultancy services to industry. 14 MARKETING / QUALITY Article describing the recent Group 12 changes written by M.. Langer was published in AIChE Extra in Fall of 1997 Advertise best presentations in the Group 12 newsletter. (done for LA ‘97 Meeting) Pursue programming a joint session with other AIChE groups to gain wider exposure Web page Run a question and answer session, or “ask the Expert”. Consider a panel discussion or a tutorial. Propose publishing the best paper in the CEP Contact individuals, institutions, other agencies who are involved in process development to try and forge a partnership Post information about Group 12 on the AIChE website July 9, 1999 Current Activities
