2 …Not Just for Looking up Definitions!
The Oxford American Desk Dictionary & Thesaurus is a useful reference tool. It’s got lots of information in the front “Reference Section” Let’s take a look.

3 Start at the top – Guide Words
Guide words are located at the top of the page. Use them to help you locate the word you’re looking up! That’s why they are called “guide words”.

4 Entry Word The entry word is in blue.
bicycle (bi sik el) n. A two-wheeled vehicle that you ride by pushing the pedals with your feet. I like to ride my bicycle to school.

5 Pronunciation The word pronunciation is in red.

7 Definition The definition is the meaning of the word.

8 Example Sentence An example sentence shows how the word is used in a sentence. The example sentence is in purple. bicycle (bi sik el) n. A two-wheeled vehicle that you ride by pushing the pedals with your feet. I like to ride my bicycle to school.
