1 Waste incineration plants
E.ON Energy from waste EEW Hannover GmbH

2 Waste incineration plants in Germany
and in the Netherlands and Luxenburg

3 Facts about the waste incineration plants
tons per year Only household waste and household similar industrial waste No dangerous waste You get energy for households

4 The principle 7 boiler 8 turbine 9 generator 10 condenser
11 transformer 12 spray absorber 13 absorber 14 fabric filter 15 induced draft fan 16 emission measurement 17 chimney 1 delivery 2 bunker 3 (pusher) grade 4 slag remover 5 cinder bunker 6 ammonia water

5 Delivery and bunker The waste is offloaded from trucks
The waste is in the bunker A cran transports the waste into the boiler

6 Standpoint

7 Boiler and grade In the boiler the waste is spreaded by grades
The fire temperature must be everytime over 870°C

8 Slag remover and cinder bunker
The residue of the burned waste (slag) is transferred into the slag remover Now the slag is cooled down The cold slag is brought into the cinder bunker The slag will be transported to another company Iron, non ferric metals and not burned material is taken out The neutral slag is used for street building

9 Standpoint

10 But the smoke would damage the
nature, wouldn‘t it ?!?

11 No, because there is a cleaning principle!

12 First step: NH OH + NOx are getting to H O + N
Neutralisation of nitrogen oxides by spraying 25% ammonia water. ammonia water nitrogen oxides NH OH NOx are getting to H O N 4 water atmospheric nitrogen 2 2

13 Second step (spray absorber):
By atomisation of quick lime follows various reactions: quick lime Ca(OH) Ca(OH) Ca(OH)2 SO HCl HF H2O + CaSO H2O + CaCl H2O + CaF2 sulphur oxid hydrochloric acid hydrofluoric acid water calcium sulfite water calcium chloride water calcium fluorid

14 Third step (absorber):
Addition to spray absorber: Gaseous heavy metals and dioxines were bound on carbon. For reaching that, lime and activated carbon is sprayed against the cours of the smoke: heavy metal doxines attaches to attaches to activated carbon

15 Forth step (fabric filter):
The solid components in the smoke get drained out by the filter membrane Regular the solid components get cleaned from the filters by compressed air The shaken off components are getting into a residue silo and after some time they get into an underground depot

16 The leaving Emission measurement
The clean gas leaves the Waste incineration plants threw the chimney The induced draft fan supports the escape of the clean gas

17 Water circulation and steam circuit
How to get energy by burning waste…

18 … see where it is

19 The principle Inside the boiler are pipes in wich water is flowing
The water is vaporized because of the heat in the boiler The steam rises because of the big pressure The steam powers the rator of the turbine The generator produces electricity from the rator energy The transformer plant leads the electricity into The condenser cools the water down to 60°C The circulation begins again the electricity grid
