2 Sweden’s overall development cooperation  Budgeted for 2005: 22,417 million SEK (3,200 million USD)  Financed through tax payments  Corresponding to 2,500 SEK (350 USD) per Swedish citizen  Target to reach 1 % of GNI reached in 2006  About half of the total amount is channelled through Sida

3 Swedish overall goal with development cooperation The overall goal is to contribute to making it possible for poor people to improve the quality of their lives This includes:  Respect for human rights  Democracy and good governance  Equality between men and women  Sustainable use of natural resources and the protection of the environment  Economic growth

4 Natural resources and the environment in CA  Objective: To contribute to poverty reduction and reduced ecological vulnerability  Target group: The rural poor in Central America  Overall budget frame 195 million SEK for Central America  Overall budget period 2004-2008

5  The programme should support; –Human capacity building with respect to sustainable management of natural resources –The development of technically, ecologically and socially adapted methods for improved natural resources management

6 - The development of policies and dialogues for natural resources management and for an improved environment at a regional level -Practical application of sustainable natural resources management by financing projects and programmes involving several countries where know-how and experiences are exchanged between countries in the region
