2. There is a lot of information that you will need from Goal 2! This goal covers: –Length –Elapsed Time –Weight –Capacity –Temperature This slideshow will help review important concepts that you need to KNOW for the EOG!

3. Know it...about length! When we are measuring length, we are trying to figure out how long an object is. There are two systems of length that we use to determine length--- the Customary System and the Metric System.

5. 12 inches = 1 foot 36 inches = 1 yard 3 feet = 1 yard 1,760 yards = 1 mile 5,280 feet = 1 mile

6. Know appropriate measures for distances! Measure small objects using inches, such as erasers and books. If it’s as big as you are, use feet! If it is as big as your backyard, use yards! Miles measures the most distance.. You go far in your car!

7. Metric Length tiny objects, like an eye book centimeter (cm.) decimeter (dm.) kilometer (km.) person meter (m.) far distances, like from our school to Walmart

8. 10 centimeters = 1 decimeter 100 centimeters = 1 meter 1,000 meters = 1 kilometer Use prefixes to help you remember conversions!

9. Know appropriate measures for distances! Measure small objects using centimeters, such as erasers and books. If it is as big as your backyard, use meters! Kilometers measures the most distance.. You go far in your car!

10. Know it…about temperature! Temperature answers the question, “How warm?” We use thermometers to measure temperature. There are 2 scales that we use to measure temperature—Fahrenheit and Celsius. Temperature is measured in degrees.

11. Know it..about Fahrenheit! 90 is hot 70 is nice 50 is cool And 32 is ice. The freezing point in Fahrenheit is 32  F. The boiling point in Fahrenheit is 212  F.

12. Know it..about Celsius! The freezing point in Celsius is 0  C. The boiling point in Celsius is 100  C. Count by tens and you will see, Celsius is so easy! 0 is freezing, 10 is just cool, 20 is the temperature of most rooms at school, 30 is quite a warm spot and 40 is just plain hot.

13. Know it…about capacity! Capacity tells the amount a container can hold. Capacity can be measured using measuring cups or measuring spoons. There are 2 systems we use to measure capacity---customary and metric!

14. Know it..about customary capacity! There are 4 main units of customary capacity! Gallons—Gal Quarts—Qt Pints—Pt Cups--C

16. Know it..about metric capacity! There are 2 main units of customary capacity! Liter– L Milliliter-- mL A milliliter is about a drop. There are 1,000 milliliters in one liter. 1,000 mL = 1 L

17. Know it…about elapsed time! Elapsed time describes the passing of time. It answers the question: How much time has passed? Knowing how to tell time is a MUST for calculating elapsed time. 12 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 Each large number on a clock represents 5 minutes. 60 minutes = 1 hour

19. weight Know it…about weight! “How heavy is it?” “How heavy is it?” We use two systems to measure weight, or mass—Customary and Metric. Scales can be used to measure weight.
