As a part of project planning, a complete complexity analysis of the AWT and Swing components was undertaken. This knowledge, was used to meet the specifications of the OWL HIP.  Special focus was placed on the clarity and structure of the code and on conforming to Sun’s Java code notation guidelines.  Testing was done on the line of SUN JDKs for Windows 98/2000/XP, the SUN Personal Java implementation (beta) for Windows CE and the Insignia Jeode VM for Windows CE.  Result  The result was the OWL HIP PJ and OWL HIP J2 that exceed the possibilities of AWT and Swing to render consistent graphical user interfaces across multiple environments.
