2 The Patriot Act  The "Patriot Act", is a act enacted by the U.S Government that President Bush signed into law after 911.  The Act increases the ability of law enforcement agencies to search telephone, e-mail communications, medical, financial, and other records; eases restrictions on foreign intelligence gathering within the United States.  ( "US Patriot act." 3 Homeland Security Act  The Homeland Security Act was pushed through Congress in the months following 9/11,  Because some thought we were a government that is fractured, divided and under-prepared to handle the all-important task of defending our great nation from terrorist attacks.  911 research.(" Web. 20 Oct 2009..)

4 Introduction of the TSA  Before September 11, airport screening was provided by private companies. 5 Aviation and Transportation Security Act  The Aviation and Transportation Security Act (ATSA) was enacted in the immediate aftermath of the September 11 attacks.  The Act created the (TSA) within the U.S. Department of Transportation.  However, with the passage of the Homeland Security Act, the TSA was later transferred to the Department of Homeland Security.  ("avation and tarnsportion." wikipedia.
