An Astronaut… Is Latin for “star sailor”. They go on space shuttles to conduct experiments and expand our understanding of life and other galaxies. They prepare for and perform space operation activities (ex. working on the space shuttle, working on mission control) They train hard for a variety of spaceflights, including shuttles and expedition assignments to the International Space Station.

Education The minimum degree that astronauts need is a bachelor’s degree. But, since they are required to perform a wide range of technical and scientific work, most of them have a masters of PHD in engineering, science, math, psychology, medicine, or anything related to aerospace industry.

Colleges that are Good for this Career University of Maryland(UMD) has a neutral buoyancy tank for future astronauts The college or university you attend must be an accredited institution. Massachusetts Institute of Technology(MIT) - Buzz Aldrin (Edwin Eugene Aldrin Jr. ) went to this school University of Southern California(USC)- Neil Armstrong went to this school

Classes that I should take. Some classes that I should take in school are… Engineering Biology physical science mathematics

Annual Salary and more This depends on the Federal Government’s General Schedule pay for the grades GS-11 through GS-14. their grades depend on each astronaut’s academic achievements and experience. Currently, a GS-11 starts at $64,724 per year and a GS-14 can earn up to $141,715 per year. The hours per week depend on when shuttles will be launched off into space.
