8. Approved Document B
Proprietary fire-stopping and sealing systems, (including those designed for service penetrations) which have been shown by test to maintain the fire resistance of the wall or other element, are available and may be used.
Other fire-stopping materials include:
• cement mortar,
• gypsum based plaster,
• cement or gypsum based vermiculite/perlite mixes,
• glass fibre, crushed rock, blast furnace slag or ceramic based products (with or without resin binders), and
• intumescent mastics.
These may be used in situations appropriate to the particular material. Not all of them will be suitable in every situation. 8

10. Fire Risk Assessment Responsibility
Under current UK fire safety legislation, the 'responsible person-duty holder' - that is the owner, manager or employer - must carry out a fire safety risk assessment and implement and maintain a fire safety management plan.
The 'responsible person' can potentially face fines and imprisonment if something goes tragically wrong. Several high profile companies and organisations have been fined heavily after getting their fire risk assessments wrong. 10

Fire test determined more than just a fire testing.
The three properties shown are all assessed in a fire test.
What is commonly forgotten is that insulation is an important factor to be considered .
The technical standard
in Scotland have insulation for a requirement for building elements and therefore the it can be seen that the firestopping must similarly be complying.
Both criteria are measured in hours and minutes.
