3  student apartments  one-person rooms  share a bathroom and kitchen with a roommate  furniture and bedding provided  bring a bowl and silverware

6  Our dorm was on Straβe des 18. Oktober  Leave through the back of the dorm and walk to the Johannisallee bus stop  take the 16 Messegelände one stop past the Hauptbahnhof  then walk straight down the street to Lumumbastraβe  Estimated time: 20 minutes

8  Take a written placement exam to determine your skill level  You will be placed in one class with others at your skill level  These range from 1-5 and had an A and B subsection What!?

9  very similar to your regular German language class  only German will be spoken  your class is determined by your score on a placement test of your language ability Our happy teacher!

10  3 hours of instruction in the morning  Either regular class work or phonetics  One half hour break  1.5 hours for lunch  I’m so hungry!  Varied activities in the afternoon  May include: recreational activities, educational excursions, or more class time

11  during your half hour break you can go to a bakery on Lumumbastraβe!  Exit the school building and turn right on the first street - there it is!  the Kirscheplunder and Leipziger Lerche (a Leipzig specialty) are especially good!  There are also vending machines and coffee in the basement!

12 Group project to present at the end of the course Buchenwald Concentration Camp Excursions to Dresden, Eisenach, Leipzig city tour, Erfurt, and Weimar Soccer game

13  there are many food options in the Hauptbahnhof  sit-down restaurants and Bratwurst vendors on Augustusplatz  University cafeteria  You can cook! The Rewe grocery store is just down the street on Straβe des 18. Oktober  Farmers market every Tuesday and Friday on Augustusplatz Only one Euro!

14 located off of Augustusplatz offers a variety of premade plates or custom pasta and salad bars pay with a prepaid Mensa card (one plate is around 4 euros) a pasta plate was a good deal- you could put as much as you want on one plate and it was only 4 Euros!

18 Student club Offers food, bars, dancing, concerts, poetry readings, art etc. REALLY FUN! It’s underground! Events planned every night!

19  There are two tests and homework to keep up on  One Mündlich (speaking) and one Schriftlichen (written) exam  Speaking involves about 5 minutes of continuous speech on various topics like yourself  Written consists of 100-350 words (depending on level) on one aspect of the trip

20  Everyone signs up for one end of the term project  These vary in topics and are presented in about 10 minutes – all in German !  This is then followed by a going away ceremony & party
