Core beliefs ●Judaism has no formal set of beliefs and actions are considered more important ●The 13 Principles of Faith are widely accepted ●Some main beliefs: o One person cannot die for the sins of another o A blood sacrifice is not required for forgiveness of sins o Jesus was not the messiah o God hates human sacrifices o People are born pure and without original sin o God is one and indivisible o God does not become human and humans do not become God

Other information ●Ethnic religion o Judaism originates from Israel and appeals to a certain culture ●Autonomous structure o Jews do not report to any certain person o Worship typically happens in synagogues o Judaism focuses on developing the relationship that God has with the Jewish people

Diffusion ●Began in the Middle East ●Over time, Jews moved around frequently to avoid religious persecution (this is known as the Jewish Diaspora) ●After the holocaust, Jews seeked a safe place, or a “religious homeland” o Israel was divided, and parts of it reserved as a Jewish homeland o This explains main concentration of Jews in Israel ●Judaism is diffused more globally than other ethnic religions, but still is most prominent in Israel and revolves around that culture *see map on next slide*
